Trader Joe’s Tote Bags

There seems to be some sort of frenzy over these $2.99 mini pastel tote bags at TJ’s. The news said people are lining up to get them, and some online sources are selling them for as much as $100 each. I never understand this kind of craziness!😵‍💫

I believe it! It's supposed to. I just meant that the recipe photo wasn't professional and making it look good in a photo takes some skill. Lardons are classic, many just call for bacon, some use ham--they're interchangeable depending on what you can get, your budget and your taste. Most recipes have some kind of creme fraiche or white cheese. The ricotta and half and half is another way to get the same kind of texture. I'm not sure what you mean about the texture because puff pastry is lofty, not flat, whereas the thin, crisp crust you describe is the traditional texture. Thin and crisp is a function of how thing you stretch your dough and the heat you cook it at. To keep it from lifting, dock it with a fork all over.

So I would be a likely candidate for your bags as I have been looking for some to use and I'm willing to pay a little more if I could get a cute graphic or saying on them too. I've been looking to spend up to $15 as I expect it to be long lasting. Here's what I've been looking for: - Washable as in machine and dryer safe and keep their size - material isn't such a big deal, but I'd like them to look nice. - Be able to stand up to weekly use and if I pay more I'd like at least one year of use out of them, but would really like a couple of years. - Good handles that aren't too thick. I like to carry multiple bags at the same time when unloading the car. - Easy to fold and stay folded - Easy to pack as in staying open and not have the sides cave in when I'm packing groceries into it. - Can hold something heavy without ripping or weakening any seams - I'd like a bag that can fit the width of a cereal box and be able to support the weight and space of 2 gallons of milk. - I'd like it lined or thick enough to absorb some of the sweating that happens in the Texas heat and not soak through and also easily dry so I don't have to have space to hang it up. - Handles long enough that I could put one over my shoulder, but not so long that if I'm carrying it along with several others by my side it will drag the ground without me having to wrap the handles. This is a tough one. At this point I'm considering if I should try to sew my own as I haven't found what I'm looking for yet and then I can get the exact handle length that works for me, along with picking some fun fabrics.

Here's what works for crowds at my store: There are the early birds who are practically standing in line at 8 when they open. They are mostly finished and in the checkout lines by 8:20 or 8:30, so I try to get there at that time, as it picks up again after 9 a.m. It also is less crowded close to closing. I raced in one time about 10 min before closing and as I checked out and commented that I almost didn't make it before closing, the worker told me that if you're in the store at closing, they don't shoo you out. They are there stocking until later anyway, so they leave you in peace to finish up. At closing, they may be out of stuff on the shelves, tho, but often it's in the back waiting to be put on the shelves. They are GREAT about checking for you and bringing what you need out of the back, if it's there.

@Olychick, you're so right about all that. They go well beyond the call of duty. My most recent encounter was with one of their half turkey breasts. My husband put it in our cart, and we didn't notice there was no price sticker on it. Of course the checker noticed and said, "No price - no charge." I've told this here before, but they sent my elderly stepdad home one day with his bag of groceries after he'd left his wallet at home. "No worries," they told him. Then they wouldn't let my mom pay for the items when she went back. Like you, I'm so pleased with their well-deserved success!

Didn’t people learn from the Stanley mug stampedes? Everybody in a frenzy, then 3 months later no one wants them. What a bunch if sheep we can be. And apologies to sheep!

One link (eBay, I think) had the four totes (one of each color) for a mere $400.

I sent my husband down for bread the day they were released and he said there was no line and they had plenty. I have two of them , not in pastel colors but both are green. They were gifts, one from daughter who used it as a birthday gift package, and one from one of the guys who works at Traders. Daughter bought three, I think, and will use them as packages for gifts for friends.

Darned tote bags everywhere! They have become a scourge in thier own right!

What is the heck are people toting around , and why? And, just who is doing all this toting? It seems to me that this appeals to mostly women. But other than grocery shopping, I dont see people using them at the checkout for purchases.

The market group at TJs knows this and that is why they made these in soft pastel colors, to appeal to women. Women do most of the shopping.

Really, folks, this is ridiculous! This is just advertising and building brand loyality for commercial entities like TJs . When you actually pay them for it and carry it around you are spreading that brand loyality around for them like some natural force of nature, like a worker ant carrying it back to the nest to share with the hive. It is simply playing into the hands of the marketers. We are so gullible!!

There seems to be always something to crave and rave about for 15 minutes before going on to the next thing to crave and rave about.

What dumb apes we are with our big monkey brains!........all of us. I have done my share of monkey thinking.

I guess I live under a rock. It's only here, on gardenweb that I become aware of these current events.

I do appreciate being in on the inside but really some of this just reminds me why I might feel like an outsider. To each his her own..

I don't get it either. I'm also not crazy about pastels-besides that, all my fabric tote bags hang out in my garage-of which, end up in the trash after I accumulate too many.

I never got the hysteria over Stanley either. Someone did buy me one-so I do have one. AND, I did buy my 9 year old niece one for Christmas-I always ask my sister what my niece is wanting for Christmas and her birthday.

Arcy is right, but I'll take it further, it seems to be the moms with school-age (elementary, middle-school and college) girls who mostly participate in all the craziness.

I don’t get the whole craziness either, especially over a cheap tote bag. My observation is the same as arcy’s and where it starts is beyond understanding but I suspect it’s some social media influencer of course who says you must go buy this.

They are basically useless but as I said my daughter uses then to gift people filled with small items for their birthdays. I rarely use the two I have, except once in a while I take it in to Traders and put my smalls in there. When I go to Trader's tomorrow, rest assured I won't be buying any if there are any left.

How big are these? I use a heavy canvas tote to carry loppers, pruners, knives and such. But I've had the same bag for 35 years.

I love their full sized ones. I took mine into Aldi's the last time I went shopping there. It's amazing how much I can pack in there!

@matthias_lang, I think I saw online the mini totes are 11” x 13”. I have several of their large ones I’ve had for years along with their wine totes. All inexpensive and durable.👍🏻 These are the ones I use the most. My three wine totes are at least 20 years old.

On my weekly trip to Trader Joe's today, the mini bags were loaded to the ceiling in all four colors. Apparently, I live in a sane part of the country.
