Van Engelen for large quantities of bulbs, Scheepers are the same company but sell in smaller increments. Brent and Becky's Bulbs sell quality bulbs and have a discount if purchased or payed for by a certain date. I met Brent and Becky many years ago, they are nice people.

We have a bulb farm nearby. Not only do they have good prices when they've lifted their bulbs, one can buy an armload of tulips or daffodils from their chilly shop they keep for showing flower samples - for just a few dollars. It's less than a half hour away and i havent gone yet this year.

As for ordering, I've never had a complaint about anything purchased from Brent and Becky's.

As head of landscaping for our HOA, I purchase from Van Bourgondien usually. (MY MAIN GO-TO. Label showed the bulbs came to me directly from Netherlands, don't know it this is always the case). I also purchased large quantities of Red, white & yellow County Asiatic lilies(.80cents a bulb), turks cap, trumpet & Oriental's. Oriental Poppies, in gorgeous exotic colors. They're ALL doing AMAZINGLY well! And have come back 100% + multiplied. (No gaps in my plantings.) The Daffodils I purchased, 200qty, Red Devon's, were very fresh(from Tulip World, they had the best price @ .40cents a piece ).

Note: Brent & Becky's are 4x as much $$...and I get nothing "extra" by shopping with them. I placed a small order years ago...and the bulbs were HUGE....not necessay....as the flower size was the same and the bulbs grow big on their own. (Use bone meal & blood meal mixed with the soil under the bulb, Ace hardware carries it)

Edited to add: I purchased MORE/100Qty Red Devon daffodils from Walmart and they're ALL coming up too. Plus, Double Tiger Lilies. (Hard to find)

Bulbs are pretty fail proof. I get mine from the local big box store. They've never disappointed.

If anyone has an interest, you can mosey over to the garden watchdog to look at the ratings of almost every nursery business that sells to the public. By the way, Breck's bulbs got 250 positive reviews. 80 neutral, and 243 negative reviews whether it was poor customer service, low quality material received, or both. I would stay away from buying anything from Breck's! My experience with buying from any box store has been varied, sometimes the bulbs were what they were marked as, sometimes the varieties have been mixed together with other varieties, or they were the wrong variety altogether. That was usually my experience. Big box store bulb results have been poor and not at all reliable for me.

Several years ago I was going through some old garden notebooks that I had put past garden information in, and found a credit slip issued to me for bulbs that were unavailable from Brent and Becky's Bulbs that season. The credit was for $38 and it was dated back to 1987 when the company was known as the Daffodil Mart. As a kind of joke I mailed it to the company and kiddingly asked if it was still applicable to my current order - or if at least they could knock off the shipping cost for me - Becky emailed me and said that everyone got such a good laugh out of it that she gave me the full credit and applied it to my current order that year. Any company that honors a credit slip that is over 30 yrs old with a different company name on the credit has my business!

I too, vote Bret and Becky's. Huge bulbs, have shopped them for years for different kinds of lily bulbs. Never a small or bad one.

I vote for Scheepers or Van Engelen for large orders.
