I change the few that don't change themself in the morning.

Any clocks that don't automatically reset need to be changed tonight when you go to bad. When you awake it will be an hour later than the present time. So in rdr not to be late by glancing at the wrong clock change tonight.

I change mine before I go to bed -- that way I wake up at the new "right" time. (which is the wrong time -- I want standard time all year!).

Before i go to bed, except the car which will catch me several times before i remember to change it.

I have to change the microwave, oven and thermostat.My vote would be for permanent daylight savings. i like light in the evening and I can sleep as late as I want.

yesterday seemed like saturday to me so i reset all the clocks last night before bed. 🙄

i also put fresh batteries in my smoke alarms. i do this with every time change.

My choice as a northern tier person would be permanent standard time because during the summer everyone had more than enough evening time but for those in the northern tier it would not be daylight for us until ten in the morning in the winter, For those of you who think they need more evening how about thinking about us in the winter, Have mercy. Don't be selfish.

The news says change them before you go to bed tonight 3/8 and hour forward. I could careless which spring or fall I just want the changing to go away. We moved ours after dinner--get our brains prepped.

I do remember when we stopped switching under Nixon and within a few months we went back to switching as people really didn't like their kids waiting for school buses in the morning in the dark...

Three of four of my family’s cars will show the correct time again; that’ll take some getting used to. The fourth, we bought in August and I don't recall setting in fall, so maybe it's automatic?

I just have to say I don't have to reset one clock. For some reason I never changed it last time change. So I guess it'll finally be right again

I took the original query to mean the poster was honestly confused as to when the time changed. I was only offering 'official' guidance vs my own opinion. As it turns out I did not watch the news yesterday--I read the advise earlier in the week. I did what I always do, move them early evening. If we waited until morning we would be late for church.

I detest daylight savings time. I'm a very early riser and now it's stll dark when I'm ready to be outside and getting some garden work done.

My kitchen clock changes automatically. Only have to change my car-which I do religiously next time I'm in it. Really bugs me, if I don't.

I have to get up ridiculously early for work, which means I should go to bed relatively early to get enough sleep. It is HARD to get to sleep when the sun is still shining brightly at 8:00 pm. And before you all say oh just get light blocking shades -- I do have decent light blocking in the bedroom, but the problem is also that the human body doesn't get the hormonal signals to start winding down until the light gets lower/darkness sets in. I sleep SO MUCH BETTER on standard time. Yes, it would still be light later in the evening because there are more hours of daylight, but that hour makes a big difference -- getting dark at 9 pm is reasonable during high summer, 10 pm is not.

And "energy savings" is a stupid defense nowadays with LED lightbulbs, plus if people are up later in the evening they may very well have their AC on more to cool the house when they're awake, so I'd say people might be using more energy, not less. That's what I think, anyway but what do I know.

Another stupid defense of daylight savings IMO. Even in the dark days of winter, dawn comes around 7-ish a.m. where I am, it is not pitch-black out there; spring-fall it's earlier, of course. Only high schoolers are heading off to school that early.

I vote for standard time all year round.

Uncharacteristically for me for a Sunday, I had to get up early and so needed to set an alarm. I used my phone, knowing it would know the intended time in a cosmological sense.

I'm amused by those of you with such strongly contrary views of the practice. Hey, it's just the time. If you were to travel in your car across a time zone line (which many of you may live near) for a one-week trip, you'd experience the same adjustment as for the seasonal time change. It's no big deal.

When the sun is straight overhead with no shadow on a sundial, it is 12 noon. The time zones should be set to 12 noon in the center of the zone and STAY the same year round. So, standard time.

And no we never travel, so never go to another zone. I miss twilight in the summer. I usually go to bed at 8PM, so it is still daylight during the summer, which I like best of all the seasons.

However, if we could just STAY on one time, it would still be better than all this fiddling.

Devices connected to the internets automatically change, unless you disable them. I just fix the few clocks that aren't connected (stove, car, weather clock) today, or maybe later on...

My schedule has always changed by at least an hour throughout the near, weekends, holidays holidays, vacations, and we seem to adapt. I prefer light in the morning. When we change to daylight savings, dinnertime always takes me by surprise! But I get used to it, and the family eventually gets fed before 8pm. (just kidding, it didn’t get quite that bad, but if we wanted to eat at 6:30 but outside it still looks like 5, it just feels weird.) But really, I’m adaptable and don’t much care, except I do recall waiting for the school bus in the dark in the ’70s, in the snow by the street because there wasn’t a sidewalk at the stop (no shoulder, no curb). Scary. But I was a high schooler so I guess we were expendable, right, porkchop?

And anyway, didn’t we all learn the RLStevenson poem?

I didn't remember at all until reading this thread, but the only clocks I need to change manually are the one on the oven which I rarely notice and the one in the car which will get changed whenever I remember to do it.

Most of ours changed automatically. Only had a couple that had to be set manually. It really isn't that big of a deal honestly, but if I had my druthers, would take daylight savings. I love when it's still daylight at 9 pm. I really really dislike it getting dark at 5 pm in the fall/winter.

Actualy that’s the defense for going back to standard time. It’s not just kids going to school, it’s more people driving to work in the dark.

Regardless, if it's not obviously obvious -- I am unreservedly wholeheartedly in favor of abolishing daylight savings time and staying on standard time year-round. If that's not ever going to happen, than I am in favor of picking one of the two times and sticking with it, no more changing back and forth.

I think the change balances out the range of time for dawn quite nicely. While I acknowledge and understand arguments for the three options, my vote would be to keep things as they are.

I always follow instructions and get up at 2am to reset the clocks......the instructions are dictated via my bladder. .....nyuk, but no, since retired we just wait until the next day. It will be nice to see daylight again a couple of hours after dinner today.

Actually, you will see less daylight after dinner today :-) Clocks were set ahead for DST so your dinner today is an hour later than it was last night.

The switch doesn't really bother me. I'm not a clock watcher. I'm always up early so it's always dark outside. I just do all my indoor stuff until I'm ready to go outside. And I am rarely in bed before 11pm so dark enough to sleep well. tbh, I can sleep well in broad daylight or with the lights on anyway so really not a concern for me.

I changed the few that need manual changing about dinner time last night. Exceptions were my car which still isn't done as I didn't take it out any place today, and the clock to the timer for the outside garage lights. I so dislike that timer. I just about need a magnifying glass and tweezers to make a change in it and somehow I never get it right the first time. So I obviously can't see it easily but I can't quite reach it without a step tool and I can't take it down and hold it in my hand - it's hard wired right into the wall of the garage. I said I dislike the timer. Its more like I hate that timer and hate is not a word i often use. If I stand on tip toes and blindly reach, i can turn it off and on manually, no times involved, and I may even do that about dusk tonight and worry about it from a ladder tomorrow. DH can hold a flashlight and offer encouragement and I will still get it wrong first try.

The chart food posted above shows the natural phenomenon that I think makes the anger about changing the clocks seem unfounded.

The shortest day of the year is the Winter Solstice, December 21. From then until the Summer Solstice (June 21), sunrise time gets earlier and sunset time gets later. After the Summer Solstice, the opposite happens, earlier evening darkness and later sunrises. No matter whether time zones are shifted or not.

For those who get upset about the time change, does the nearly 1 hour later sunrise as the calendar passes from July to August anger you? Or losing an hour of evening daylight from July into late August as sunset gets earlier?

True, a minute or two a day is not the same as an hour at once. I dislike winter. I am not a mole and require light. I celebrate the winter solstice, as in - 'I made it!' I very much resent short winter days but have had responsibilities (and limited funds) that make it hard to escape to long term winter sunshine. As my SIL does. She and her husband left for Hawaii a couple of weeks before Christmas. They will be home mid week this coming week. For a day, then a social commitment in a southern state. Sigh.

But back to the clocks, anger, daylight savings times....Elmer, in this state the majority voted to do away with the clock change. FOAS, wherever living, may very well not be a minority.. In 2019 our legislature passed a bill to put us into permanent daylight savings time and not make the change back and forth - signed by Gov Inslee. It hasn't happened and we change back and forth because we must. The change takes an act of Congress (literally) which we've yet to get.

Although I'm sure most of us here in the UK and Europe dislike the policy we don't 'change the clocks' until the last w/end in March and in reverse the last w/end in October Of course, if and when we become the 50 something State of the USA after Greenland we may have to fit in with your time-zones. This we await with some trepidation . . .

sjerin, I was responding to comments above complaining about the extreme points in the cycles of sunrise and sunset that people suggest are caused by changing clocks, which of course isn't the case. You can read them yourself - I have to get up early to drive to work (and so drive in the dark). or I can't get to sleep when I go to bed at 8pm, sun rises too late in the morning in winter, or the like.

Actually, that's backwards. With DST, the daylight you had at 6pm before is now the daylight you have at 7pm as you move the clocks ahead. Sunrises and sunsets are later with DST.

Seems to me that children being killed by cars in the dark isn't a 'stupid defense'.

It also depends on which side of the time zone you are on as there will be an hour difference in sunrise already. For example, Detroit, 7:58 am and 5:02 pm on 12/21/2025 vs. 7:11 am and 4:06 pm for Portland ME ... same time zone. So if DST were permanent, then Detroit sunrise on that day would be around 9 in the morning when most children are already at school.

We have so many. Just in my kitchen/FR we have one with an outdoor thermometer, the MW, 2 ovens, a pendulum wall clock and one by the cable box. DH spends some time resetting all the antique pendulums and battery powered ones we have around the house. And it's on me to do the security system and his car clock.

My wife asked me to fix the oven and microwave. So I guess my answer to the original question is, ”Tuesday morning.”

I’ve confirmed that the new car adjusted itself. The other cars, like I said earlier, are now correct for the first time in months. I do also have to adjust the grandfather clock, and then I’ll be done.

Yes annie, only a wall clock that changes automatically, although I have to change battery every so often. My MW has always just shown 00:00-I've never needed to set a time on it, since I don't need it with wall clock in my kitchen. Oven has no time clock on it at all.

Amazing, OllieJane, I don't think I could live with so few clocks and that despite wearing an apple watch all the time and usually being near my computer or cell phone too! I guess I'm totally time obsessed!

I do ask Alexa what time it is if I'm in my bedroom and my iphone isn't handy.
