Who remembers "Canny Camp" ?

Before CF I hung out on another cooking site and met up with a few members. The one closest to me (geographically) passed the other day and we were waxing nostalgic on a facebook group created after the chat shut down. ANYway....I was telling them about flying to Michigan for a canning camp and how we made a chutney in honor of a lost member and someone asked for the recipe.

It was quite a walk down memory lane searching for that recipe. A lot of swap posts came up, but no Janet's a Peach Chutney. I seem to have lost that and all my pictures from that trip, but it was certainly memorable and I am hoping you are all well!

Thanks, Lars. That's my regular old peach chutney. Still looking for the one we created 13 years later, lol. And the camp was 19 years ago...hard to believe.

Too bad you couldn't make it. It was a good time.

I remember Canny Camp, but I was unable to go to Michigan at that time, although I did visit Annie in 2019, the summer before the pandemic. I especially remember how much Jessy loved Canny Camp, and afterwards we had a Phyllo gathering in L.A. with Oly giving lessons on how to use Phyllo.

I've never made any chutneys, and so I cannot help you with that. You posted a Peach Chutney on this thread, however, and on this one.

I just found my way back a couple of weeks ago! My guys Cooper and Bailey crossed the Rainbow Bridge 5 years ago. And now we have our 4th beloved Golden Retriever, Griffin! loved rereading this thread too. ah The memories!

Thanks for sharing this Maddie. So sorry to see him go, what a wonderful, creative person. I shared his love for decorating with and restoring historical pieces, although not his talent and good eye. Just goes to show you how many fascinating and wonderful stories there are out there in the human realm. So glad I had at least a little glimpse into his. A generous soul who was and will be missed!

Pam, Elery says you are seeing each other, and that's OK with me. (grin) He keeps me kind of up to date, but with all the political noise out there even he has started doing mostly family and old friends and a couple of sub-groups that don't allow any political issues. Good luck with the vacuum. You need to clean before the cleaning woman comes to clean? Evil Jessica stopped coming here when they linked the forums to social media, not wanting to have all of her information become property of Facebook for whatever purposes they desire. I don't "do" Facebook in part because it's a time sucker and I don't have any time left to be sucked. I do some "hit and run" here, but between Mother, my Clerk job in an election year, the farm and garden and things my kids/grandkids need, well, there's not much time left. Yes, Ben Casey. Funny how that immediately popped into my mind when I saw it. I liked the show but he was a bit swarthy looking for me. I liked Dr. Kildare, much better looking in my opinion. Certainly better looking than Marcus Welby. I was not particularly interested in their medical skills. My dad was a doctor and would laugh at loud at some of the ridiculous “medicine” that went on in those shows. I remember one show showed some poor soul’s lung X-ray and my dad said it was obviously filled with cancer while the tv docs stood there scratching their heads. George Clooney and Dr. McDreamy could treat me any time.

I was looking for it 12 years ago and couldn't remember if I found it or not! Unfortunately, I've been unable to locate it. Again. I thought I stuck it inside that USDA canning book that we all got at "camp", but it's not there....

Hi there!

It's been weeks since I've been able to log in to Houzz / Gardenweb. My preliminary hunt for the Peach Chutney recipe was a bust. I'll have to dig deeper into paper files and see if I can find it.

I loved canning camp! I still talk about it when canning comes up.
