The Texas Pesto Project

last month

I was able to post this to Cooking and to Home Decorationg Conversations but not to KT so I am posting it separately here because there are people here whose cooking advice I would value. I have been buying commercially jarred pesto genovese, and have decided to give it a go myself, but it is going to be a project.

I have ordered a mortar and pestle from Amazon. I live in a tiny apartment in Texas and have a small patio with a bunch of plants, and have been a gardener in the past so the plan is to grow a pot of basil. Years ago I grew some lovely basil in my garden, I don't remember much about ot except that the leaves were a red/purple color. So my first question, since there are many different kinds of basil, is what variety is both good for pesto and forgiving of being grown on a patio. Any advice on growing basil in a pot, and any pesto advice, would be much valued.
