How to safely hang x-mas lights on a tall outdoor tree
Comments (6)I did a search on the net and this is the only store that I could find that sells something for hanging lights in a high tree. You can order it online or go to one of the two stores in VA if you live near there. I'd be surprised if one the home improvement stores you mentioned wouldn't sell something for this or give you a suggestion on where else to look. You could always print from this site and take it to the store when you ask them. http://www.merrifieldgardencenter.com/products.php?pid=99014422&openparent=1523 Here is a link that might be useful: Decorating Pole for hanging lights in trees...See MoreFinding Room For Your Xmas tree
Comments (15)This is a good question. We live in a cottage with less than 700 sq.ft. We've had larger trees before, when we had less stuff, but as we've added pieces of furniture and more bookcases, we've run out of space. For the past few years, I've used a small tree set up on a table but I've missed a larger tree. A couple of years ago, someone threw out a perfectly good artificial tree 6' tall still together. Of course I grabbed it, took it apart and put it away. Then hurricane Wilma happened and a pine tree came down in out storage shed, and things were a mess in there for awhile until we did repairs, so last year, we used the small tree again. This year DH suggested using the larger tree, but leave off some of the back branches and put it up against a section of wall that is between two arches. We put some small steel weights in the stand to hold it upright and it looks great so far. I just put it together this morning, and had to leave for work, so tonight will be the fun part of stringing lights and decorating it. We also hang ornaments along the ceiling on the 1x2 wood that's along the ceiling. Tiny nails are about 4" apart and the ornaments look great up there. We've done this for probably 20 years at least. I'll post some pictures after I'm done decorating. Living in small spaces, we have to figure out ways to do things differently. I thought it was interesting that they now sell half trees to put up against walls. We had not seen this or heard of it. It's a great idea, and I'm glad DH got the idea to do this with our tree. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all. FlowerLady...See MoreWhere to find a good quality white artificial Xmas tree ?
Comments (20)I went to Target and they had one white xmas tree in the whole store and I put it on hold. Went to Kmart and they were sold out of white - Martha Stewart brand. Went to Lowe's and they were sold out of white. Went back to Target and bought their tree. It has a metal stand and lights and is 7.5 feet - will try to get it up this evening or tomorrow. acoreana, our giant cat adopted us. He used to live next door and they kept him as an outdoor cat. One day I heard him meow in the perennial border while I was weeding. I called him out and noticed he was real skinny and scared. He stayed around in our yard for three weeks as an outdoor cat and we fed him because he was so skinny. After a while we wanted to name him a name that started with a B (because our other two cats names start with a B), but couldn't think of a good name. Three weeks went by and he was still here. One day we saw our neighbors outside and we asked them if they knew anyone who had lost a cat. They said - well we haven't seen our cat, but he is a free spirit and goes wherever he wants. We didn't even know they had a cat. We said well he is over here, and they said, is he bothering you, and we said Ohhhh nooooo - he's not bothering us (by this time we just loved him) When we were all departing we said - by the way what is his name - they said his name is Butter. When they said his name - we knew he was meant to be our cat. They told us he was mauled by dogs when he was younger. They have 4 dogs - he shivers if he sees a chihuahua and he is bigger than them - so that's why we think he came over to our property. They have since said as long he is happy that is all they care about. That's how he adopted us. I call him little because he's sweet - but he is a gentle giant. He follows me around in the yard like a dog and is a wonderful cat. Thank heaven for small favors. Here is another photo of Butter in the garden....See Morexmas lighting sos
Comments (2)Can't help much with the waterfall, but over the weekend at our local festival of trees there was a scene set up with a pond scene. They used blue lights under plastic to create the pond effect. I think that for a waterfall you would probably want to use chasing lights, maybe in blue and clear.
