pothos ivy in trouble.
Comments (5)It is indeed a Pothos with long aerial roots. Not a problem at all, actually very cool. When you repot, you could provide something for your vine to climb up, as it seems ready to do. As a vine, that's what it would do naturally, climb up a tree trunk. It looks like a possibly toxic level of salt/lime build up has happened in the pot, a condition that warrants repotting. Even if you have no option but tap water, using a pot with a hole, then watering thoroughly so excess water runs out of the hole (and completely away, not trapped in a drip saucer,) can prevent that in the future. If you have the option to catch some rain water, your plant would appreciate that very much when possible. Distilled water, and condensate from a dehumidifier or A/C are also sources of water with no added chemicals. Sorry for the delayed reply, for some reason I didn't see the discussion pop back up on the forum page, and haven't checked email for a few days. You may find some inspiration in regard to goals for your plant in this extensive discussion about epiphytic vines. (Tons of pics too.)...See MorePhal woes - is my phal apoptosing?
Comments (10)Thanks for the replies...Mehitabel - there was a lot of cold rain right before I brought it indoors...yipes, I didn't know infection spread that quickly! I won't be able to go back home and check on them until Wednesday....now I'm going to be worrying the entire time. Thanks for the warning! Howard - yes, the plant was probably more sheltered than it should have been, light wise. Now that I think about it, the 'orchid table' was really not in a very good spot at all...I was under the delusion that my yard was bipolar in either deep shade or glaring all day sun, save for an area in between two apple trees which got dappled shade the entire day (I now know, after careful observation of my yard during the summer, that I have pockets where I have nice morning sun and afternoon shade which would probably have been a better candidate choice for my 'intermediate' light growers) Anyway, I've realized that apple trees are terrible things to have above orchids (you can probably see the apple leaf in the media of Nobby's Amy...yikes...what terrible culture, you must be saying :( How embarassing). Falling apples and branches smash pots and orchids onto the ground (amazingly 0 casualties this summer), and the two trees were infested with fungus towards the end of the summer...spores were (are) likely everywhere. I shudder now to think about those spores dripping down onto the plants during rain. Amazingly this is the only plant that has shown signs of disease (so far), but I am now paranoid so I will probably do a peroxide wash on everything. Is straight hydrogen peroxide harmless to the plant? Any parts I should be aware about not getting the H2O2 on? What's really weird is that I have another noid phal which was sitting next to this one...it fell off the table more than 3 times throughout the course of the summer, and it's leaves are completely shredded (can you imagine? Tons of gaping wounds)..one of the leaves has deep pits (not really mushy) and weird yellow blotches, so I was sure it was a goner...I have it isolated and yet it's shown no signs of disease progression. Instead, in the last two weeks, it's been putting out a new leaf, roots and a spike....perhaps it received slightly more light/air movement than it's friend next door. Anyway, I've spilled the beans on my awful orchid culture...my deepest darkest secrets have been revealed! Hopefully someone will read this and learn from my mistakes...I know I will! You *might* be wondering why I didn't bother moving all the plants, despite seeing the apples and the fungus on the leaves above...I think it's because everything was growing so happily in the summer, I felt I had things perfect. If things go well, why change em? Little did I know, some of these latent problems were just waiting to erupt when colder weather set in. In retrospect, I'm sure I could have found better conditions and had even better growth. It's all a learning curve! :D...See Morewant to play possum?
Comments (6)I have to admit, I have a soft spot for possums (and not in soup). They are not the best looking (and that's being kind), but I grew to like them when I went to school near where several lived. And how many animals can hang by their tails and play dead like a possum? I'm glad he's getting a new home on the other side of the river!...See Morecompromised credit card
Comments (23)Has happened to me, too. One time I ordered something from a small store in another state. I have a feeling they were not sophisticated enough to protect their database of credit card numbers. It was shortly after that that I found that two laptop computers had been ordered using my card. Another time my son found a $15,000 charge on his card. He just happened to check his account online. He called the credit card company but they said there was nothing they could do about the purchase, although he would not be responsible for the cost. The charge has been made to a large lighting company in another state. My son, out of the goodness of his heart, called the company and informed them of the scam. They were so grateful! The order was sitting n their loading dock waiting to be picked up and they were able to stop it from leaving the warehouse. They would have been stuck with the cost. What a world we live in. I'd call the police and let them know about the spa, although, who knows, maybe there is some rotten apple at the credit card company....See More- last monthlast modified: last monthladypat1 thanked carolb_w_fl_coastal_9/10
