Poem for winter- Vita S-W
Comments (1)It's good to hear a little something from good old VSW. I had heard her name, but didn't know much about her until I read about her in conjunction with my visit to Sissinghurst a few years ago. I still don't quite know what to do with most her novels, but I'm consistently inspired, challenged, and delighted by her poetry. Still, though, as for the sentiment behind it, it strikes me as a noble but unfortunate attempt at "polishing turds," as they say. Y'all's climate sucks! As a former resident and gardener in the frozen zones, I've got to say that it makes a whole lot more sense to me to find a place to live where the winter months don't "dishearten" the gardener quite so much. On some level, I can appreciate the muted, understated beauty of a winter garden in the frigid North (or dreary Kent, probably), and my masochistic side enjoys visiting friends and family there in the winter sometimes. The rest of me enjoys coming home even more, though. Those of you in places like that might as well make the best of it as long as you're there. But it still seems like life is too short to throw away a third of it every year waiting for your yard to thaw out. My heart goes out to you, as the rest of me floats away on the intoxicating, tangy aroma wafting in from my garden of the edgeworthia in full flower on this third day of March. Thanks for sharing, Mindy!...See MorePoem for Caregivers
Comments (1)What a great poem. I can relate about the part of having to tell dad many times what his new medicine is for and when to take it. I write down on a posty note when to take it and leave it next to the pill bottle. Once he gets use to taking it he does fine. I call in his medicine monthly so I know if he's taking it like he should. In this time of a persons life it is torn into a thousand directions. You need to know their safe, that their doing ok on their own if they live alone like my dad. There are times when dad is doing really good. He has taking an interest in getting one of his old cars up and running and he did it. I'm not all that happy about him driving the old car cause it has sit for 4 or 5 years without even being started the whole time. He had it towed and had the gas tank emptied and a little work done on it but I wonder about the tires and any leaks from sitting all that time. I think to myself that he must have an angel riding with him in that car, keeping it going just for him. I cannot tell you how many times my heart is pounding in my chest when I drive over to dads to get him his breakfast. I walk up the steps and look for the kitchen light to be on, if it wasn't on I'd walked over to his bedroom window, knock on it to see if he's awake. Many times I fear he'll go sometime in the night in his sleep. In away I know he will be better off but the loss will be greatly felt heavy in my heart. Comments (5)On a wondrous day exactly 16 years ago A beautiful baby named Kaylyn swept into our hearts. You were so precious and beautiful, so sweet and cuddly, That our happiness level just flew off the charts. On your special day this year, your sweet sixteen, We want you to know just how much you mean to us. So of course we have to hoot and holler And generally create a bit of a fuss. No need to blink to see if it will go away - We guarantee you won't be looking at a mirage. Come and take a look at our gift to you. It's waiting for you in the garage....See More- last year
