Send some rain up to Chicago!

DH made risotto, tonight, it was good. He had to use up some mushrooms, so he made risotto so he could add the mushrooms to it. and he made a schnitzel. Well, it’s what we call it, anyway: pounded-thin breaded pork. He does breadings really well.

Oh, man, bpath, I love schnitzel. Hoping you get some rain soon!

Chloebud, lemon bars sound good too. California and Nevada could also use some rain. Not sure if the Nevada fire is still burning?

No rain for us for over a month. Send some here. The Aldi brioche rolls are good.

Its as dry as a desert here, but there is the possibility of rain next week. My grass crinkles when you walk on it.The birds are loving my birdbaths. Maybe if its cool and rainy next week, ill be motivated to cook.

On the dry side here too but a tropical system off the SE coast is predicted to dump 2-3" of rain on us by Tuesday.

Glad you are getting some rain. We need it here desperately. I will bake my weekly loaf of bread tomorrow morning, and I have some green beans and peppers from the garden to cook up, and roast one kabocha squash and a pot of beef stew. That's about it for cooking this weekend -- for the next 4-5 days, actually, I batch cook on the weekend so I can grab-and-go for weekday work lunches and dinners.

IDK when we last had rain in Chicago. Weather page says no precip for the past 30 days. When I run the irrigation on flowerbeds, there's no trace of water an hour later, despite high humidity. City watering restrictions are due to end tomorrow, but I could see them being extended. Migrating birds are drinking from our little decorative fountain. The 'creek' alongside our property is a wide strip of mud with a strip of shallow water barely moving downstream. You might wet your ankles in the very center. Lots of clouds, but none bearing water.

Given the horrible weather in other locations all over the globe, I can't complain very much.

We are in "severe drought" here in central Ohio. It was rained only 7 times in my yard since late May, only 2 of those rains were substantial, the rest not even 1/4". I keep seeing storms hitting west and southwest of us, but they have all dissipated long before reaching me.

Kathsgrdn, I have learned that Aldi's cheapest breads aren't worth buying - but that applies to other stores as well. When I need bread (which I have been cutting down on) I try to get over to the Pepperidge Farm outlet near me, or splurge on an Ace Bakery baguette.

All the chances for rain have dried up now. It was supposed to rain all weekend long and then into next week. No more.

Raee, I don't shop there very often. I've decided to start baking my own bread more often. I have a small Zojirushi bread maker. Makes loaves just right for one person.
