Recent thread removed by OP or otherwise?

There was a thread discussing what different thermostat settings people use for air conditioning. I wrote a comment for. Just as I clicked on the Submit button, it seems to have disappeared. I imagine that was done by the original author? I wonder why?

It was timely, rather uncontroversial as such things could be and seemingly of interest because there were several comments.

Roma, I sorry to hear about you problems sealing with wax. Personally, I have never used wax or other types of sealants except DAP. I like the waterproof glue to protect mine. No one has every said that you have to do this, it is a preventive way to prevent moisture form Getting into the cut. Yes, it will heal naturally and I have let mine heal naturally as well. But I have found less problems when I add protection to the cuts. Also less die back of the stems...I also wait 20-30 to let it dry , then seal to the ends of the whole cut to prevent any moisture to settle in. I make sure it isnt outside in the rain when I cut or even after until the wound has been sealed and settled in for a day. Remember I cover the whole cut and seal up and slightly over the side to make sure moisture will not get in.... Sounds like there was fungus already in between the cut branches and the wax. Could the wax have separated at all and allowed moisture to settle in? You have some beautiful seedlings and trees and I remember that you have lots of new babies... Strong work!!! The question to seal or not is up to you. If you feel like you have better results with it healing naturally, I'm all for it. I have just found that I like the sealant that helps best for me. I also prune my Bonsai trees and they are woody stems. Many masters use this as well... So, it does have its benefits. You just want to prevent before anything can get into the wound before you have to take action after the fact.. I'm sorry for the problems. I have heard of people using wax to seal the bottoms of Plumeria... Over in the east...That's all I have heard about wax. I hope you can cut away the rot on Your larger tree. It is hard to see this happening. I always make sure to wipe my cutters with alcohol between each cut to prevent problems. Please keep us posted... Laura Pagan... HOT CRAB & GREEN BEAN SALAD (serves 4) 1 lb fresh or thawed frozen crabmeat (I've used canned, well rinsed) 2 lbs green beans, cut into 1" pieces 3/4 cup mayonnaise 2 TBL lemon juice 1/2 tsp dry mustard 1 small clove garlic, minced 1/4 cup finely chopped onions 1/4 tsp salt Pepper 1/4-1/2 cup fine dry bread crumbs 2 TBL butter, melted Drain the crab & pick over carefully, breaking up any large pieces. Cook the beans in boiling salted water until crisp-tender, then drain. combine the mayo, lemon juice, mustard, garlic, onions, salt & pepepr in a large bowl, blending well. Carefully stir in the beans & then the crab. Spoon the mixture into greased baking shells or ramekins. Top each dish with a sprinkle of bread crumbs, drizzle w/the butter & bake uncovered in a preheated 400Â° oven for about 15 minutes or until the salads are hot & the crumbs browned. (Or bake in a shallow casserole for about 25 minutes.)~~Century of Good Cooking I've not tasted this but have made it for others & it was a hit: WARM POTATO & GREEN BEAN SALAD (serves 4) Salad: 1 lb small red potatoes, scrubbed 1/4 lb fresh green beans, trimmed & halved crosswise 1/2 small red onion, cut into thin wedges 1/2 red bell pepper, chopped, optional Dressing: 3 TBL olive oil 2 TBL dry white wine 2 tsp white wine vinegar 1/2 tsp each salt & pepper 2 tsp chopped fresh parsley 1/2 tsp each dried oregano & thyme 1/8 tsp dried basil for the salad: Place the potatoes in a saucepan & cover with cold water. Bring to a boil & cook about 15 minutes or until easily pierced with a fork but not mushy. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, bring 1" of water to a boil, add the beans & cook about 5 minutes or until crisp-tender. Drain the potatoes & beans & let cool slightly. Cut the potatoes into halves or quarters, depending on their size. Place the potatoes, beans onions & bell peppers in a large bowl, mixing gently. For the dressing: In a small bowl, whisk the oil,wine, vinegar, salt, pepper, parsley, oregano, thyme & basil, blending thoroughly. Pour over the vegetables, tossing gently to coat. I was using the term 'assistant' in a general sense. I didn't get a look at her badge, and she didn't introduce herself, except to say that she needed to ask some questions. If I'd known she was a PA, I'd have identified her as such in the OP. I wouldn't call her a receptionist--to me a receptionist is the person behind the desk, taking my name (and money), and scheduling appointments. It doesn't matter to me if she's an actual PA, or a nurse, or a NA who was just hired yesterday--if she works in a physician's office she should know basic medical terminology, and should be able to read the words on a sheet of paper. I used to work in an office in the same hospital complex, and before I was hired I was given a basic medical terminology test. My husband taught medical terminology, as well as courses in his chosen field, in the allied health program at our local college. As I mentioned, FIL was a medic and EMT. MIL was an RN. My sister-in-law is a nurse prac, and my son is a paramedic. Maybe being around folks in the medical field has made me more aware of minor mistakes, but colonoscopy is a very common term. Since we're speaking of colonoscopies, everyone, please make sure you have your screenings. I had mine in July--not fun, but now I can relax for a few years.

We moved to Florida from NY. The house we bought was so dark inside because of large overhangs from the roof which blocks sunlight and a large lanai running across the back wall which has a roof, no sunlight. We liked the house, but I couldn't stand how dark it was inside. Before we moved in, I call a Tubular Skylight company to get an estimate on installing them in the house. Recommendation was a large one in the kitchen ceiling ($500.00), small one in a bathroom off the hallway($250.00), a medium size in the family room off the kitchen ($325.). I can't tell you how bright this area is now. What I liked is they just go through your attic, make the openings and can position the tube (in the attic) toward south so we get bright light from sunrise to sunset. Over the past 6 yrs when we could afford more, we added to the laundry room (no windows), another bathroom (small skylight), the dining room. My house is so bright when you walk in you think there are spotlights all over the place. It took me a while, initially when the first ones were put in to get used to the high level of light. Looked like a new house! Before putting them in, we had to have our overhead lights lit all day. That costs a lot of money. I feel these tube skylights have paid for themselves in 5 yrs. Plus the house looks like a bright, inviting home. Everyone who walks in comments on how bright our home is. I would look into installing at least one large one in the kitchen, maybe a medium in the hall. So much less expensive than 'real skylights' and keeping the lights lit all day. Jane

Heat, AC, whole house air cleaner was all in the same system in our smaller house. Large west facing windows and I would still often turn it off in warm weather - so close to the PNW ocean we rarely have an uncomfortably warm night. Heat 70F, air at 78 if on, air cleaner running always. We've always been something of an open window household and I imagine all kinds of pollen, air debris are coming in.

We have radiant heat in the ceilings in this house and no duct work at all. I think in 10 years we've had two nights where it was a little uncomfortable for sleeping. Still, we managed - we are both good sleepers - with fans running in the bedroom where we typically have an open window just about year around.

It's the air cleaner that I miss, I rarely had to dust. Here, I'm dusting and I do run air purifiers in three rooms, still I dust often (or should).

I didn't see the earlier thread either but exceptionally warm weather (or exceptionally cold weather) concerns us so infrequently in our coastal location.

Same here morz8, though for the first time in my 75year life, I had minisplit air conditioners installed because the few awful years of wildfire smoke when we couldn’t have our windows open. Last year I didn’t use the air one time; this year I used it for about a week. I’m only a few hundred feet from Puget Sound, so get a nice evening breeze off the water, tho not nearly as cleansing or cool as off the ocean. where you are.

Oly, my first house didn't have AC. You know, a million years ago. 😆 It wasn't commonly seen in houses in NY. Some people had those awful loud buzzy window units, but whole house AC wasn't standard. My first house was a tiny cape cod. Upstairs in the summer would reach 92 degrees on hot days. I remember putting box fans in the windows at each end and sucking cooler air in once the sun went down.

I can still remember trying to sleep, sweating away in humidity on sticky sheets. So grateful for AC now.

Wow, I’m among those who did not see the posts at all.

I’m old enough to recall the days in the south without AC. Fortunately my Dad owned an appliance store and remedied that fairly early in my life. I still remember days we played outside rather than inside though and we didn’t seem to mind it so much.
