Anniversary of a sad, sad tale.

Every year at this time, many of my teacher friends think of a lovely Family and consumer science teacher that we lost 5 years ago. She did so much for students outside of teaching, and loved the high school students and her job.

She did not show up to the first day for teachers 5 years ago. The principal should have called then, but did not. Three days of not coming to school, the principal called police for a well check. The last any of us had heard from her was when she went to lunch in June with a teacher friend.

Warning: this is not pleasant.

Police found many amazon boxes on her front porch. Upon breaking into her condo, a body was found on her bed. The cat was in bad shape, the dog was so bad, she had to be put down. Her next of kin, a brother a state away was notified but no ID was able to be made due to the extent of decomposition of her body. She did not keep up with brother except at holidays. Coroner said it would be weeks to months before they would be able to determine cause of death. The brother never let us know.

Take this as a warning. Please if you live alone, have a buddy that you call every day, so you know each other is ok. It may have not saved her, but it would have saved her pets, who were like her children. The coroner says she was dead for weeks. No one questioned her piles of Amazon boxes, or not seeing her.

I am sorry if this is too horrible to read, but if it saves someone else, then it is worth it.

No one ever told the students what happened, but she had the biggest student/teacher funeral I have ever seen.
