Lenox Elite Series XL16 -036-230 Compressor 2 Stage Variable Speed 3 Ton Air Handler Lennox Signature Model # CBX32MV-036-230 Variable Speed Quote: $6,600.00 plus $500.00 Lennox Rebate & $500.00 JCP&L rebate total cost $5,500.00 after rebates. Question, is it more efficient to have a 2 stage compressor in my area as we only use the A/Cfor about 4/1/2 months . The XL17 in my second quote is a single stage in the Signature Series. There is a $1,500.00 difference in the pricing. Also the air handler in the second quote is the top handler in the Signature Series. Your yhougjts would be greayly appreciated.

Both quality systems. The major difference is the Trane is a fully communicating system, the Carrier is not. Both furnaces are 2 stage var speed 80% efficient. The Trane condenser is variable. The Carrier condenser is 2 stage. The Trane systems quoted are identical with exception of the coil size which I assume is a matter of efficiency but I have not looked them up in AHRI directory. Should not be a price difference. I would ask dealers for AHRI matching number on the systems. I would want a pleated media filter cabinet for any of the systems. If you wanted a fully communicating Carrier system comparable to the Trane, you would need to upgrade to the Infinity 80 furnace, Infinity controller, and Infinity var AC condenser. I would expect on the systems quoted, the Carrier is less expensive. IMO

Sorry, but you may have trouble easily replacing those doors. While you will be able to find those nominal sizes, you won't be able to just pop them in. The hinge positions and/or the doorknob positions are unlikely to align with existing positions on the jamb, and the door edge by the lock may need to be planed at the proper angle for door closure. Unless you are handy with routers, chisels, and planes, you will have to hire somebody to fit the doors. As for the walls, you can buy spray texturing in a can and try to trowel it to achieve the approximate look, but you will likely have trouble making it match so that it isn't an obvious patch. It may be cheaper to get fined than what you have in mind. And I'd love to hear how all that damage occurred...or maybe not :-)
