When I decorated my house, I took my inspiration from textiles I saw in stores. I liked the combination of robin's egg blue, chocolate brown and spring green. My dining room is chocolate brown (with lots of white trim and paneling) with robin's egg blue curtains and chairs. The living room is a muted light blue, with a green sofa, and some dark brown side tables. The kitchen is green. I didn't strictly stick with the color scheme for the kitchen (since it is separated from the other rooms by a hallway), substituting black for brown and using a bit more vivid palette. But the colors all work together. I only know a bit about color theory, but I figure that designers and artists know a lot. So I look for color combinations that I like in things that other people have designed. You may have to tone the colors down a bit for an expanse as large as a wall. In line with what Anenemity said, colors tend to look much more colorful on the wall than on the chip (or on the bedspread or in the painting), simply due to the size and uninterrupted expanse of the wall.

I love grayed greens for walls Seasalt is a nice one from SW. IMO nature uses greens as a neutral alot more often than gray or beige.

Natural Cream and Maritime White are so similar I wonder if you'd be able to tell that they're two different colors. They both belong to the Yellow hue family. When it comes to the theory that colors have undertones - especially paint colors - you should know that everyone is making that up as they go. Colors don't *have* undertones. It's not a fact. Undertones are just someone's subjective opinion of how a color looks under unspecified light sources in some random context. Which means no one can get a color's undertone wrong because it's however it actually looks in their opinion. When we compare the factual color attributes (think of it as color DNA) Natural Cream and Maritime White are very similar. You don't have to understand the numbers in the table in order to see just how similar they are. Basically the only difference is Value/LRV which is why I wonder if you'd be able to tell they're two different colors in two different room's inherent lighting.

White. I love white houses. And, you have that beautiful gray roof. Keep the door as I see it…dark gray? We painted our house last summer, white again, but this time our paint store recommended we use B.M. exterior paint, in “soft gloss”. We did Super White….love it.
