Mollugo verticillata?

I'd ask for a recommendation from a experienced southern CA gardener - rather than a rampant hosta-phile from the Great White North. Some things just don't transplant well... With proper care (watering, maybe some shading, good site prep) you should be able to put that little Fig right in the ground. As no one else mentioned it: Maple species will have opposite arrangement of foliage, whereas your Fig should have alternate arrangement of simple leaves. Shape of the leaf should almost never be your first clue on plant ID.

Looks spot on the same to me. New growth is chartreuse and ages to brown before turning green. Something is eating mine this season. It looks like its in the laurel family but the one I was able to find that looks like it gets white flowers and red berries. This does not bloom or get berries. I keep it cut back to under five feet but it will get taller. It's been six feet tall. It is a great foliage plant. Whatever it is.

Looks like cassia (senna) bicapsularis. It's a favorite of sulphur butterflies. It normally blooms in the fall but I noticed that my neighbor's plant is blooming now too. Crazy weather! Here is a link that might be useful: Cassia bicapsularis
