Floating Stainless Shelf above cooktop
Comments (16)Fori, I talked to a lady a long time ago that bought the 47" shelf and shortened it. The rods have a plug in the end that is threaded in the center. To assemble the shelf, you put a screw into the end from the outside of the bracked into that hole in the end of the rod. She cut the rods to the correct length and then knocked the threaded center plug out of the cut-off end from the inside. Then she put some epoxy into the end of the shortened rod and inserted the threaded center plug. She said it worked like a charm! My hood is 36" and I used the 32" shelf. So there is only 2" between the ends of the shelf and the cabinets....See MoreFloating Shelf Dilemma
Comments (6)ditto to KR. (I wish you would have tiled all the way up though) You have such a tall ceiling, that large expanse of wall if going to look bare. This one looks pretty good. I like the warm wood, the copper, the plant, and the multiple shelves. don't be afraid to mix in some mixed elements. with a white/gray kitchen, you need some of these warmer/organic tones to keep it from looking too sterile. I'd prob do a sconce or two (or even a pendant) See how this one looks? tried to find open shelving w/no tile and a higher ceiling. other visuals. schoolhouse style sconce. Here's one in the white shelves I notice you have a light in the ceiling. if you don't want to do the sconce, you could opt for a pendant shelves partial, with pendant, Schoolhouse style pendant shown here and fully across w/two sconces. just so you can see You could do a shade darker or lighter than your floor if you like the wood. I'd take them side to side. make sure to add some greenery to the decor. even some plants that spill over the edge. Don't forget the runner...See MoreLighting in high ceiling above stairs
Comments (7)There are a few ways to look at this, I would guess about 36" would work. We need style help. this is a cool curved wall I'm inclined to go round or linear. But style does matter here....See Moreled up-light on top floating shelf?
Comments (4)Thank you both! The idea is to gently light the texture of the wall tile, lessen the comparatively dark space above lighted floating shelves, and for a soft effect in the evenings, not to light the ceiling. Everything will be on dimmers. It's a very narrow galley kitchen circa 1979, and having some floating shelves will hopefully give it a bit more breathing room. I've had open shelves for years and enjoy them very much. Dust control isn't a big issue for me. I'm careful not to clutter them, and I don't mind dusting everything in my house once a week or as needed. My modest amount of open shelving is no exception and worth what little trouble it is to enjoy a few special things I like to look at. Jennifer, I've seen what you mentioned, and I appreciate it. As you said, the more commercial look isn't the vibe intended, but the concept is similar. We've decided to move forward with it. If it doesn't look right, the led strip can be removed with a quick snip of the scissors! :0)...See MoreGilbert G
