I guess a big part of why we picked that location for the water closet was because there was already a window in there (room would not be dark) and because there is enough adjacent wall for a pocket door to travel into. Also because the plumbing could not be heard if the toilet is flushed at night. It's not exactly set in stone though since this wall does not currently exist and we aren't married to any drawings we've come up with thus far. Relocating the washer and dryer is a long answer. When I put in the doorway to the master bedroom I made sure to buy a door big enough for the washer and dryer to fit through. They absolutely must move out of the garage. As-is the dryer vents through over 20' of flex duct with two 45 degree bends and a 90. The washer drain and water lines run underneath the floor of the dining room which was originally on a slab, but was raised up about 1' to provide a space to run them. Think of it as a small, completely inaccessible crawlspace. Because of the height the drain angle could not be set correctly and the water lines have also had issues before we bought the house. Also, any maintenance or repair requires destroying the dining room floor. Other exterior walls are all taken up by bedrooms and the living and family rooms. If I put them in the small closet immediately off the master bedroom I'm looking at a straight shot, 16' of vent through the crawlspace. It's a very tough problem to figure out... I'm including a sketch that shows where the other bathroom window is though. It makes relocating other things or using the area as non-bathroom space very difficult. This whole part of the house has been very hard to figure out how to make functional. We don't know what the previous owners were thinking when they designed the addition. I'm normally not a difficult person but trying to piece together a better layout has been very frustrating. edit: Tomorrow I will play with the layout a little more... there may be a way to move the W/D over towards the window to the right of the vanity. I like my first idea best as far as use of space. I know people say not to put toilets on an outside wall. We had one in our last house in Iowa, but we had 2X6 construction. I don't know how high your window is, but I'm guessing the toilet would fit under there. The shower would be 5 feet long or shorter if you want a wider space to get to the toilet. (kind of tight the way I have drawn). You could do a 5 and half foot long shower and do an angled door at the left end to allow room between the shower and toilet. The vanity would be about 7 feet long, unless you do a 60 inch vanity with a linen cabinet at the door. I would reverse entry door swing if you do that.. The second top right could work and you would still have a small closet. The bottom left plan would require waterproofing your front window. Hopefully someone will give you other ideas. The bottom right plan is bigger, but no closet. Each square equals 1 foot.

I have had low hanging lights by the bed before. They looked great but I found them pretty easy to hit when I was making the bed so I wouldn't use glass shades on them. If either of you really read in bed then you need to get lights that are really angled over your particular space and away from the other person unless they are willing to wear a sleep mask. To me neither of the design choices do that. The pendants will give a circle of light (although the light may be diffuse enough by the time it reaches the other side of the bed) and the sconces are actually angled from the outside of the bed toward the other person. The one thing that I would add would be four outlets for each side of the bed. You need separate switches so that you can each control the light on your side of the bed. You may also need to have a clock (perhaps one for each of you?) plugged in right by the bed and you may want to have chargers for your phone and iPad by the bed... And you may use an electric blanket, or one of those childminder gadgets so that you can hear what's going on in the babies room, or if you have extension phones attached to your cell phone you would need a place for the extension phone to be plugged in.

I'd be very surprised if this house was designed by a licensed architect. It looks more like what a draftsman who only knows how to use a CAD program would design. I post this all the time. The best houses are only one to two rooms deep. And covered lanai, porches, garages, etc count as rooms in this case. The best houses make sure kitchens have natural light, meaning windows so one doesn't have to have lighting 24/7 to use the kitchen. (And no, dining areas with windows 10' or more from the kitchen will not allow for natural light.) (I'm bolding this because one tiny window over the sink will not give you much light in the rest of that kitchen, And of course it will depend what direction the kitchen faces.) The best houses make sure all public rooms and bedrooms have windows on at least two walls. The best houses do not if possible put mechanical rooms, pantries or closets on outside walls The best houses do not have diagonal interior walls making for odd spaces. The best houses keep public and private spaces separate. The best houses do not have you walk through the work zone of the kitchen to bring laundry to the laundry room. The best houses do not have the mudroom go through any of the work zones of the kitchen. The best houses do not use the kitchen as a hallway to any other rooms. The best houses do not put toilets or toilet rooms up against bedroom walls or public areas. The best houses do not have walk in closets too small to stand inside. The best houses have separation, such as closets, between bedrooms and between bedrooms and public rooms. The best houses do not have roofs that are overly large, and dominate the exterior of the house. The best houses do not have stick on exterior materials only on the front façade. The best houses have an organizing “spine” so it’s easy to determine how to get from room to room in the house and what makes sense. Meaning they don’t have meandering circulation paths. The best houses design the inside, the outside and how the house sits on the site all at the same time. Add to the above that the kitchen is very poorly laid out and will require many additional steps. Also why is the dining room so far from the kitchen? How large is your property? Is it large enough that the ADU doesn't need to be attached to the main house like an appendage? Your son has a caregiver. Is he handicapped so that he needs a larger bathroom? Coming in from the too small garage, is a big pinch point. If the door is open in the laundry room, how will you open the door to the dryer? You can do so much better.
