What color of grout should we go with?

We have currently updated our kitchen. We went with white cabinets, black accents, and butcher block countertops. Above the stove will sit a hood fan, and on either side of the hood fan will be two black open shelves. We will also be upgrading the window and adding white 3“ x 6“ subway tile.

My question is, what color of grout should we go with and should we do a white or black window? I have uploaded a picture of our mock up draft as well as actual pictures of our kitchen. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Upgrading the window- replacing it?
In that case keep it consistent with the other windows on the outside. Does the kitchen open to other areas with windows? I would keep them consistent inside too.

Are the countertops staying natural? Or will they be stained? If the window and countertops could be the same color, I would keep the wood. Can the mullion color be changed? It looks like it is on the outside of the window.

The shelves on either side of the range are going to get very dusty, very fast.

Wait until the tile is in to pick a grout color. Do some test boards with grout colors to see what it will look like in the kitchen.

Windows should ALWAYS match the existing. Without the warmth of that wood, the kitchen loses quite a bit of charm. Unless it's just decrepit, it can be rebuilt and kept. Original windows that get restored are always best for home value.

For the grout, forget high contrast. You've already got too much of that. Do a light gray, like Mapei Warm Gray.

Blackchamois, its not oyster gray, but I think that grout color could be fantastic in another kitchen. Actually I know it would be fantastic, bc when I started looking for grout, its the color I wanted (ended up being too dark gray for my kitchen). I'm attaching the pic I first saw with it and the link of the kitchen. I really think its beautiful inthe right kitchen. My tiles are daltile, which have self spacers in them. You can find them in home depot (I had to special order my color)...they're made in the USA (except for the bullnose ones which are made in Mexico) Here is a link that might be useful: oyster grey

My countertops just got installed, I picked the backsplash tile, and now I'm wondering which grout to go with. Should I do a grey grout for the pattern to pop more, I guess it will look like it does in the pic, or white grout so that it has less contrast? I laid the tile on top of the counter because it was hard to get the pattern of both from a different angle. The cabinets are white. paint the uppers only, a white or mushroom....[putty]…..I think the bottom cabinet area will work with the floor then. The layer of wood cabinetry on the walls is very "heavy" , visually.....regardless of what floor exists. A change at eye level[walls] will change things in a big way. And the wood cabinets lower down will actually be good, as an "anchor" for your space. And get some runners/mats. You lack base drawers..at some point a replacement will come into your discussions..... so extra trouble of painting them isn't worth it.

So, I have an older 2016 TCNA handbook. When I was remodeling several years ago and considering glass tile, I read about it in the handbook. There are some challenges that are unique with glass tile. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t choose it. It just means you should verify that the tile pro knows how to install it. Ask the tile pro what he does differently when working with glass tile. If he says “nothing,” then he’s not the right pro. He should be able to address how he handles these topics depending on your exact material: - waterproofing method - mesh tape, how to make it not show - thinset color, consistence and coverage - avoiding excess thinset, shrinkage and ghosting It’s been a while, so I don’t know all the details, I just remember reading a bit about it in the handbook, which I was reading so I’d know what questions to ask. You should also have the manufacturer’s instructions on hand. I love that tile. Good luck!
