aesthetics of wall mounted hood
Comments (13)Steph - It's a Kobe RA9230SQB. I assume you're limiting yourself to 400 CFM because of code or MUA issues? If so, I'd seriously consider something with more capture area, ie not a flat bottom, if you are looking for more than marginal performance. That's harder to come by in chimney style. The further forward it protrudes the better. I haven't really cooked anything demanding since the hood has been hooked up (I'm still moving back into the kitchen) but based on what I've seen when boiling water on the front burners I'm not expecting any greatness out of this thing even at the highest 760 CFM setting. I knew this going into it so I'm ok with it; my decision was strongly influenced by aesthetics, cost, and house resale in mind. kksmama - As with any appliances, you'll find plenty of range hood discussion over on the Appliances forum. I take a lot of the discussion with a grain of salt because their "conventional wisdom" does not always match my practical experience, but there is something to be learned there. Head on over to AF if you've not already done so. You'll see a lot of familiar faces....See MoreLiving/Dining Room - improve aesthetic of room?
Comments (17)Any of Beverly's doors would be better on your house than that Victorian thing. I really like your living room. I think you've done a wonderful job. If you don't rotate the art to the vertical (and I don't think you need to), lower it a good half the distance to the back of the couch. The framed art in the dining area is too high as well. Here's a rule: art goes at eye level unless it's over a piece of furniture in which case it goes 5 - 8" above so the two read as a unit. When you sit at the dining table, you should not have to look up to see the art....See MoreHELP! What do I do with a West facing 20 foot wall of windows?
Comments (56)For your large windows, we recommend roller shades. If you don't have power to the units, you can opt for lithium battery motors that last between 6 to 9 months before they need to recharge like a smart phone...plug and play. You can operate the shades via phone, iPad or 15 channel RC...up to you. We offer over 700 interesting fabrics to meet your needs... For your large windows, we recommend roller shades. Comments (16)Light is bad during sleep. Even for those who don't think it bothers them. If you really understand what happens to your body when you sleep, please educate the rest of the world - because we don't. I discuss sleep with patients all the time. It is truly amazing how people don't realize what they are doing to their bodies by how they sleep. It is one of the big holes in education. The majority of people are sleep deprived by quantity, quality or both. This contributes to many things including the big two of our time - obesity and dementia. You can never be too rich, too thin or a brain too sharp. (Yes - you can be too thin ....) When I walk into a house with transom windows facing any direction in a bedroom, I am disgusted beyond belief. I would call the whole thing a resale issue as hopefully people will gradually begin to understand how important sleep is. A bedroom should be designed so that a light sensitive (and noise sensitive) person can sleep at high noon. Sleep is one of the most important design elements of a house since our health and happiness should be the most important. Lots of natural light into non-sleeping areas is the second. Off soap box. I have windows on 2 sides of my primary bedroom. I have blackout curtains with a box built into crown at the top - hotel style. My primary guest does not have a box but the curtains go way higher than the window and it works - most of our guests sleep late and always comment how well they sleep in that room....See MoreJ Matthew
