I cant tell enough about that tube from the information listed. I would assume that it is better than cool white, but they really don't give the wavelength or color temp of the tube. I would contact the company before spending your money on it. I still think you are better off with the CF fixture though. You should go through 3 tubes by the time you have to replace your CF bulb from the setup that I listed. I have been using this style of setup for more than a year now and they work great. I think this is about as good as you can do in that price range oustide of making your own. Good luck!

You can setup a 4 shelve unit with 3 lights on each shelve (which is more light than you will ever need) for less than $300 including stand, shoplights, fluorescent lightbulbs, extension cords, conversion (3 plugs to 1) units, etc. Buy regular 40w cool white light bulbs. They are cheaper and better. Alternatively, consider a Metal Halide lighting system with 400-1000w bulb. Buy a good reflector (worth it) and a full spectrum bulb. If you are going in layers (e.g. shelve types) then buy the fluorescent light fixtures. If you have a large area, then go with the MH setup. Don't waste your money on the setups by the companies mentioned. All they provide is what you can get out of shoplights w/coolwhite fluorescent bulbs. Alternatively, if you are keen on spending the money, consider compact fluorescent light fixtures. You can buy both twin-tube and quard-tube types. They can be pricey, but they also put out a lot of light. Try the aquarium stores online for good resources.

I like to think that what we're doing "references" our home's age and style, but we're definitely not purists. As I type, my butler's pantry oak window frame is being painted white. Gasp! Our house's kitchen was originally about 15x9. It had a free standing farmhouse sink, a large stove, and possibly a hutch-like cabinet on one wall. There was a single light, probably hanging over a work table in the middle of the room. There was a pass-through pantry connecting the kitchen to the dining room, and a second butler's pantry behind the porch, and both pantries had a couple of built-ins. The "laundry room" was a three-basin soapstone sink in the basement and a clothes line in the backyard. I have thought a lot about what it would be like to be the "woman of the house" in 1910 and making due with what was available. I am convinced that Mrs. Original Homeowner would think I was crazy if I tried to recreate anything much like that first set-up with so many great new options available. Still, we tried to pick materials and finishes that were in use in homes at the time - wood (painted and stained), marble, soapstone, slate, subway tile. We had our cabinets built to look similar to the originals, and we are using the blueprints to replicate one of two missing china cabinets in the dining room. We are installing push-button switches and some period-appropriate lighting, and we repurposed a sewing room as our new pantry (which is right behind and very similar to the original pantry). In short, we have a grand old house that had a tiny, dismal, minimally functional kitchen. I like to think that if our house had a choice, it would pick the one it's getting! ;)

We wired our house for speakers during the early part of the construction phase. Our kitchen and family room have round, paintable speakers in the ceiling. I was told they'd be flush, but they protrude a little. I'm hoping they'll not bug me at some point, maybe when the lights are in and they're not the only thing on the ceiling. We did this in our dining room, but on the wall because I have an ornamental ceiling in there. I'm not sure of the name of the system as my husband chose it, but it will all be controlled in one area, or by an iPhone/ipad apparently. We love music and are hoping this will allow us to easily enjoy it.
