New Home/Planting Roses in So. Central PA
Comments (6)Are you planning several roses? You get enough chill there that you will be able to grow the fabulous European old garden roses, if they appeal to you. Since the only have one sustained period of bloom and do not repeat, I would not recommend them for someone's only rose, but if you are planting several, it would be very rewarding to plant one or two. Personally I think 10% is a good balance. They burst forth with a glorious explosion of scent and beauty that repeat blooming roses cannot match. If you do decide to include one, I would recommend either an alba such as Great Maiden's Bush, Alba Semi-Plena, (smaller) Felicite Parmentier or a damask such as Konigan von Danemark, Ispahan, or La Ville de Bruxelles. Some of these bloom for as long as six weeks, and all are glorious. Rosefolly...See Moreheronswood moving to pa.!!!!!!
Comments (57)Thanks, david 5311! I really do love it...and it began my quest for more doubles...not realizing how hard that was going to be (I realize now). It was one of only maybe two or three pots there, btw...the labels were jumbled and I wasn't confident, to tell the truth, that it was what it said it was! I decided to take a chance...and I'm glad I did. Occasionally, we get lucky! The thing is...I was perfectly happy with my other hellebores...until this double started...lol! I found an online place where you could look up hellebores (and other perennials..I guess a wholesaler?)...and there was/is this double white...not quite this type of double, if you know what I mean, not as many petals, but still neat and interesting. Anyway, I put in my zipcode and have now called all the nurseries listed in my area that are supposed to have it...none do...and none have heard of it...so much for that. I like that idea of national collections, too. Although I can't begin to think of how it could be done in a country as vast as ours. But, I'm sure there are great minds who can! Also, who really owns them? Well, just curious. Enjoyed the chat! Got snow here last night but by now, it has mostly gone away. Just when we think winter is done! March, always a tricky month!...See Morepennsylvania house subsidiary of La-Z Boy
Comments (15)Political correctness is fine. Foolish purchasing decisions are not fine. There's nothing wrong in deciding not to buy furniture made in China, especially so-called high-end furniture, since it's crystal clear that the Chinese furniture manufacturers can't hold a candle to American craftspeople. I speak from experience --- We bought a PA House Hallmark Cherry Hutch in about 1983; I presume it was made in PA, or at least in the US, it's lasted wonderfully. In 1999 we moved into a house and finally had room for a dining set. Since PA House was still making the same collection, we bought a matching table, 6 side chairs, 2 arm chairs and a mobile server. I wish we had known La-Z-Boy had outsourced this wonderful product to China. It took almost 3/4 of a year for delivery. Within 3 weeks, the woods in the table swelled so that with leaves in the table, there are very noticeable gaps on the table surface. Within two months, every chair had mild to severe splits in the wood backs. And the surface of the mobile server (which open up like a book to provide a large serving surface) warped so that one "leaf" stands up at the back while the other stands up at the front. Charming crap, they make in China. My months of complaints to PA House/La-Z-Boy went unanswered. I had to file a complaint with the North Carolina Attorney General's Office - only then did the company respond, and then only to the AG's Office. The letter signed by Yvette Nixon of PA House, was dated 9/27/06. Ms. Nixon said PA House would repair the furniture and would contact me. It's now 10/5/06. I still haven't heard from Ms. Nixon, have you? STAY FAR, FAR AWAY FROM THE PURE UNADULTERATED CRAP, CRAP, CRAP MARKETED BY LA-Z-BOY UNDER THE PA HOUSE LABEL, BUT MADE BY UNDERPAID DRONES IN CHINA!!!! BUY AMERICAN !!!! FEEL FREE TO DISTRIBUTE THIS INFORMATION !!!! DON'T LET ANYONE ELSE BUY FROM PA HOUSE !!!!...See MoreLas Vegas Trip
Comments (27)The bigger and fancier the hotel and the closer to the strip the higher the cost...so if your budget will accommodate that then just pick and choose the one that suits your fancy. We have stayed at several along the strip...any of them will please you..that's there business;;;we have stayed at Caesars Palace, NY, NY. Bellagio and a few others but there are some that are not one the strip that are just as nice and since you have a car you don't need to be on the strip...there is plenty of transportation around town...from one hotel to the others; I think the one that we had the most fun at was the NY, NY..but we are not the kind of people that have to have the plushest of the plush... Sounds like a fun trip...Enjoy Las Vegas...its fun just don't get in a rush cause there is a lot to do and see there. This post was edited by ruthieg__tx on Sun, Jun 15, 14 at 11:17...See MoreKswl
