sueb20 - I told DH what you said about never having too much art and he gave that comment a thumbs up! So... I took the two little prints off the wall (left of window) and moved them to the right of the china cabinet. I like them there! I thought they might clash with the painting that our neighbor did for us, but that's not the case at all. I used to have a plant stand and the large plant in the box bay, but it looks a little busy in there during the summer with all the greenery outside. I moved the plant stand to the left of the china cabinet and put the big plant in the bay, as you suggested. I have a couple of prints that I love, but need to have them re-framed. Those will go on the wall to the left of the window (or, I may leave that wall bare.) I'll take a pic and post later. Thanks.

If you have room for a chaise, that would be my choice. I had a Papasan chair, and it’s not comfortable unless you sit curled up the whole time. They also take up a lot of room, and the round seat part tends to annoyingly move around on the base. One of my biggest furniture regrets is selling my chaise years ago. It was the most comfortable piece of furniture I’ve ever had (the style isn’t made anymore, and it was huge). Chair/small ottoman would work, too, and you could push the ottoman up to the chair when not using. It’s hard to tell how much space you have there, so definitely be diligent about measurements of furniture you look at. You could use painter’s tape on the floor to give you an idea of scale.

My suggestions would be to have a piece that has height. Iny sketch it shows a console table, could have a lower shelf or not. There is an art piece or mirror hung above with a small plant or candle holder accessory with a small stack of interesting books. A tall plant like a palm that was already suggested would also be an easy accent piece.

Beverly's spot on. Get an appropriate sized rug to define you space--use ALL the space. Everything crammed up on the fireplace isn't working. I will never understand a TV in a room where no seating orientates towards watching it. There's confusion and dishonesty in those configurations. The drapes, matching the walls hung waaay too high...they are adding nothing to your space. Those divided light windows with no casings call for a different sort of window treatment, perhaps roman blinds.
