Kitchen cabinets confusion
Comments (6)I also am doing the cabinet search now and finding mid priced cabinets is harder than going dirt cheap or high end. Having planned and replanned this for over a year, I will tell you that I have found lowes/hd to be pricier than a kitchen shop. I am pricing kraftmaid, diamond and medallion silverline. If you know what you can live with spending, say that upfront. Know that doing a solid wood door vs veneer drives the cost up by a lot. So does having all plywood. Case in point , from a KD I got 2 quotes for the exact same design. Showplace (all wood) was 12k, medallion silverline ( veneer door, particle board sides) was 8k. I got a Shiloh quote last year, different door but was also 12k vs the kemper 9k. I would decide how much you want to spend, what are the must haves and put that on the table when you get a quote....See Morekountry kraft, omega, woodmode...opinions?
Comments (8)When we were getting estimates we looked at Omega and Woodmode. I think the Woodmode and the Omega were approximately the same but I liked the look of Woodmode better but the Woodmode was more than I wanted to spend. The KD suggested I take a look at Woodmode's Brookhaven line. That is what I got since I was so impressed with the finishes. The Omega would have been more money and I didn't like the samples I saw of their doors as much as the Brookhaven. The cabinets were installed a few weeks ago and I couldn't be happier with the Brookhaven. I know this doesn't really answer your question but I would have gone with the Woodmode over Omega but both were more than I wanted to spend and the Brookhaven seemed a good substitute for the Woodmode....See MoreKountry Kraft cabinets -- reviews?
Comments (5)I can't say I'm unhappy w/my KK cabinets, but I do wish I'd gone with my GC's cabinet maker instead. He's just done such a wonderful job on my 4 bathroom vanities, mudroom bench w/4 drawers and full wall of cherry shelving and cabinets, that it makes the kitchen look cheap in comparison. I would recommend that if you have any cabinets that will not go to the ceiling, as in a peaked ceiling, that you specify if you want flat, finished tops to the exposed cabinets for easier cleaning or placing items on top, etc. Mine are unfinished, with shims and all showing and it will be a nightmare to ever clean them out. I'm making them finish them, but frankly don't think I should have to. After all, cabinets that don't go to the ceiling are essentially furniture, and furniture always has a top, right? Other small issues I had were the seams where two boxes go together. They are machine sanded and the edges are every so slightly rounded, so the seams can not be tightly screwed together and are very obvious on white painted cabinets. The exposed hinges on my cabinets were not all level to one another, which looked cockeyed on cabinets that were next to each other. Some of my inset drawers and cabinets still need to be centered in the space. I'm certain I would not have had to ask more than once (if at all) if Rich had done the kitchen! So, if you're in NJ, and want a referral to the guy I wish I had used for my kitchen, his name is Rich and his company is Siena Woodworkers located in Rockaway NJ. (Email me for his number.)...See MoreOmega vs. Decora vs. KraftMaid cabinets build quality
Comments (1)NEVER buy Kraftmaid. I bought $13k worth of cabinetry and 100% of my order was damaged and they are refusing to replace and/or reimburse me for the cabinets. The cabinets have paint splotches, uneven paint job, cracked joints, and various other defects. All of which they say are 'standard wear and tear (wear and tear on DAY 1???) On top of all of that, their customer services sucks! Going back and forth with Lowes/Kraftmaid for the last 6 months and I was told today by Lowes that if I wanted a better paint job I should have purchased the cheaper MDF line! How does that make sense???? I plan to put this review up anywhere on the internet I can find asking for a review of Kraftmaid so others do not make the same mistake I did! DO NOT BUY KRAFTMAID FROM LOWES!!...See MoreCookie Montgomery
