Hot Water Dispenser Questions: Model Compatibility, RO Compatibility, and Safety Valve-Leak Detector

1) Model Compatibility

I am looking for confirmation that my faucet and hot water tank are compatible.

I am purchasing a California Faucets Davoli Single Handle Combo Hot & Cold Dispenser. Model 9623-K10-XX https://www.calfaucets.com/kitchen/water-dispensers/combination/traditional-style-single-handle-combo-hot-cold-water-dispenser-9623-k10-xx

Cal Faucets says this dispenser requires Hot Water Tank 9628SS:

This Cal Faucets tank looks amazingly similar to the Mountain Plumbing Products Little Gourmet® Premium Hot Water Tank / Dispenser MT641-3.

Maybe the "Mount Plumbing Products" logo on the California Faucets heater gave that away.

And these models like similar to Joneca's Ready Hot RH-150-SS:

I have read Amazon reviews of people buying the Ready Hot to replace Mountain Plumbing Products heaters. These Ready Hot models get great reviews and cost hundreds of dollars less than the Cal Faucets or Mountain Products. My guess is that they're all made by the same company anyway.

The model I am considering is the Ready Hot 40-RH-300-SSD. It has digital display and gets the water hotter than the other models.

Can someone with experience confirm that the Davoli faucet would be compatible with this Ready Hot model?

2) RO Compatibility

The Cal Faucets website shows this faucet is not compatible with Reverse Osmosis systems. I called Cal Faucets customer service to understand what would be causing the issue. Is it chemistry or pressure or something else? I currently have a cold water dispenser connected to an RO in the basement. I am looking to add the tank and a combo dispenser. The customer service rep said that the website wasn't really clear because the faucet works with some RO systems. He said specifically because I have the RO in the basement and it's working with current cold dispenser, it would be fine. That's certainly what I want to hear. But I don't understand why it's ok.

Does anyone have experience with this? Can you confirm that I won't have any issues?

3) Safety Valve-Leak Detector

The reviews that read about the the Mountain Plumbing Products tanks indicated that some people had experience with leaking tanks. In response to that, MPP sells an optional Safety Valve-Leak Detector kit for $119. https://mountainplumbing.com/product/safety-valve-leak-detector-mt6ld/

It's a water detector that alarms and isolates the supply to your RO or hot water tank. It's powered by a 9-volt battery that is supposed to last a couple years. It give an audible alert when the battery is low.

This seems like a great idea.

I found what appears to be the same model AS-414 on Amazon for $36.

Does anyone here have any experience or thoughts with this device?

Nunyabiz: Never thought of that- it is a great idea. We do not have a Keurig though. My husband would like one but I don't really like how big they are and I am a tea drinker so coffee is not my thing. The idea for the instant hot started when my friend told me about it and then I mentioned it to my husband. He said "if we had one would that mean no more tea kettle on the stove?" I said yes. He is the cook in the family and hates the kettle on the stove. Then we decided to forgo the water dispenser on the refrig door for asthetic reasons and I figured I could get one at the sink which filtered water. Now I am searching for the best one to give me hot water, and cold filtered water as well. If I cannot find a GOOD one that does both I will resort to only cold filtered water at the sink. I do not want to buy plastic water bottles and that water is not regulated anyway so the quality isn't much better than tap. I don't really want to go back to a brita or Pure filter in a gallon container since it is a pain and everyone always forgets or does not want to change the filter. Any recommendations for either the Hot and cold filtered water or just a cold filtered water? I do not mean a whole house system or RO system. Just an under the sink for drinking water with a dispenser at the kitchen sink.

Don't judge the better models based on the lowest priced budget model reviews. Note that the better ISE models also have a longer warranty and that there is probably a reason for that. I have only had my H-view for a year but I really like it and it gets about 10 degrees hotter than the Costco model, the reason I didn't get that one. If that doesn't matter to you either would be fine but I would stay away from the hot1. Sue

I do not know how much energy they use, but I can't imagine that it is much. Basically, it is an insulated little tank, 1/2 to 3/4 gallon size, that fits under your sink. It's like a mini hot water heater, but keeps the water much hotter. It's so small and well insulated that I doubt that it uses much energy. Certainly I save water and energy not waiting for water to otherwise get hot or come to a boil. I had one by Kitchenaid; it was effective but the faucet was not too attractive. I loved it for the previously mentioned reasons: hot chocolate or tea or ramen noodles whenever desired, cuts down on cooking time for pasta or steamed vegetables, great to soak a pan, great to wash just a few dishes (diluted with cold) and not wait for the faucet to "warm up", and my husband warms up his coffee mug with it. I am not a tea gourmet; I just put a bag in my mug of hot water. If you are a serious tea gourmet you'd have to ask someone else who is. I definitely plan to put one in my remodel. It will be either Everpure's Everhot product (called Solaria) or the Waterstone product. I plan to have filtered water (not chilled) in one side and hot on the other. You might like the chiller as well. I am limited to either of these because they will accept a reverse osmosis filter with an air gap. There are other brands as well, if you don't have RO. You will need a receptacle under your sink for power. Mine is on the same one as the disposal. Again, I love having the instant hot.

They ALL filter the water first before it goes into the hot tank, if that is the set up you wish to have. It is a good setup. What one does is to branch off the filtered water line (output line) so that one branch becomes the input line to the hot tank. I hope this makes sense and is not too hard to understand and also not perceived as a putdown in anyway. It's obvious, once someone points it out to you. It's simple. But, if you need any other explanation, go ahead and ask. Of course I would agree if you asked why this is never mentioned anywhere. -- The kind of filter known as "RO" may be the kind that is deemed to produce water that gets aggressive with tanks, but it's not "RO water in this discussion of an Insta-Hot and a filter. I haven't seen "RO filters packaged together with Instant Hot water. "RO is Reverse Osmosis. -- So, the conclusion is that ANY Instant Hot and any filter that uses replaceable filters go well together. -- to find out a whole lot more, the keywords for a web search are "Anaheim Manufacturing" or anaheim manufacturing quick and hot This is the company that makes the tank which twenty other companies rebrand as their own. They also make faucets. They sell both, together. They also have filters. Hint hint. -- Email the companies you whose products you like and ask the simple question if you can branch off the filtered water to send one branch into the Hot tank, and if so, whether or not this is better or worse for the tank. -- Usually, since filtering removes organic gunk, it is considered really good to remove this gunk before letting the water sit in the tank. So, I would filter water first before putting it into the IHW tank. Hth.
