Hot Water Dispenser Questions: Model Compatibility, RO Compatibility, and Safety Valve-Leak Detector

1) Model Compatibility

I am looking for confirmation that my faucet and hot water tank are compatible.

I am purchasing a California Faucets Davoli Single Handle Combo Hot & Cold Dispenser. Model 9623-K10-XX https://www.calfaucets.com/kitchen/water-dispensers/combination/traditional-style-single-handle-combo-hot-cold-water-dispenser-9623-k10-xx

Cal Faucets says this dispenser requires Hot Water Tank 9628SS:

This Cal Faucets tank looks amazingly similar to the Mountain Plumbing Products Little Gourmet® Premium Hot Water Tank / Dispenser MT641-3.

Maybe the "Mount Plumbing Products" logo on the California Faucets heater gave that away.

And these models like similar to Joneca's Ready Hot RH-150-SS:

I have read Amazon reviews of people buying the Ready Hot to replace Mountain Plumbing Products heaters. These Ready Hot models get great reviews and cost hundreds of dollars less than the Cal Faucets or Mountain Products. My guess is that they're all made by the same company anyway.

The model I am considering is the Ready Hot 40-RH-300-SSD. It has digital display and gets the water hotter than the other models.

Can someone with experience confirm that the Davoli faucet would be compatible with this Ready Hot model?

2) RO Compatibility

The Cal Faucets website shows this faucet is not compatible with Reverse Osmosis systems. I called Cal Faucets customer service to understand what would be causing the issue. Is it chemistry or pressure or something else? I currently have a cold water dispenser connected to an RO in the basement. I am looking to add the tank and a combo dispenser. The customer service rep said that the website wasn't really clear because the faucet works with some RO systems. He said specifically because I have the RO in the basement and it's working with current cold dispenser, it would be fine. That's certainly what I want to hear. But I don't understand why it's ok.

Does anyone have experience with this? Can you confirm that I won't have any issues?

3) Safety Valve-Leak Detector

The reviews that read about the the Mountain Plumbing Products tanks indicated that some people had experience with leaking tanks. In response to that, MPP sells an optional Safety Valve-Leak Detector kit for $119. https://mountainplumbing.com/product/safety-valve-leak-detector-mt6ld/

It's a water detector that alarms and isolates the supply to your RO or hot water tank. It's powered by a 9-volt battery that is supposed to last a couple years. It give an audible alert when the battery is low.

This seems like a great idea.

I found what appears to be the same model AS-414 on Amazon for $36.

Does anyone here have any experience or thoughts with this device?

After ours was installed I stumbled across a company that makes an all in one unit called Eternal Hybrid (link below). You may want to contact them and see about getting the energy efficiency specs to go that route. I think Navien also makes an all in one system now too. I would think either company would be able to give you more accurate energy specs and better answer your question. The other thing to keep in mind is that without the loop (& pump), you are in effect wasting gallons of water waiting for the hot to kick in--think showers, sinks, etc. How much does the water wastage cost in terms of both water & sewer bills + the unnecessary waste of a resource? In addition to washing machines not pulling enough water through at a time to trigger the heater and then remain on long enough to actually get the water down the line to the machine, some dishwashers are having problems too. Nunyabiz: Never thought of that- it is a great idea. We do not have a Keurig though. My husband would like one but I don't really like how big they are and I am a tea drinker so coffee is not my thing. The idea for the instant hot started when my friend told me about it and then I mentioned it to my husband. He said "if we had one would that mean no more tea kettle on the stove?" I said yes. He is the cook in the family and hates the kettle on the stove. Then we decided to forgo the water dispenser on the refrig door for asthetic reasons and I figured I could get one at the sink which filtered water. Now I am searching for the best one to give me hot water, and cold filtered water as well. If I cannot find a GOOD one that does both I will resort to only cold filtered water at the sink. I do not want to buy plastic water bottles and that water is not regulated anyway so the quality isn't much better than tap. I don't really want to go back to a brita or Pure filter in a gallon container since it is a pain and everyone always forgets or does not want to change the filter. Any recommendations for either the Hot and cold filtered water or just a cold filtered water? I do not mean a whole house system or RO system. Just an under the sink for drinking water with a dispenser at the kitchen sink.

You don't need 3 separate faucets. I have two: the main faucet I use for washing (which isn't filtered) and then a small hot/cold faucet that's hooked to the filter and the instant hot. I left the filtered cold dispenser out of my original description because it's integrated with the instant hot system. The filter faucet I have is this one, I think. The only thing I don't like about it is that the hot lever is spring-loaded as a "safety" feature, so you have to hold it down to keep the water flowing. (I put "safety" in sneer quotes because I think it's less safe to force me to keep my hand near the hot water.) I actually have a ice/water dispenser on the fridge too. It dispenses chilled water, but it comes out quite a bit more slowly than the non-chilled water from the hold/cold dispenser by the sink. I tend to use the one on the fridge for a quick glass of ice water and the one by the sink for filling pitchers and other big stuff. I didn't try hooking the main faucet up to a filter because I think it would take a big filter to maintain the water pressure and flow rate you'd want from a faucet used for washing dishes, rinsing vegetables, etc. If I have time I'll try to post some photos of what my set-up looks like from above and below the sink. I may have to do a bit of cleaning first, though. :-) Depending on how carried away you want to get, a whole-house filter is an option. My next-door neighbor the plumber re-piped his house and put a big whole-house filter and softer system in his garage. It's two sealed units about 1 foot in diameter and 4 feet high each. He says they have to be changed every 5-10 years depending on how bad the city water is. I can ask him for the brand and model number if you'd like. It looked like a big job to install, though, not a DIY project. (Even for me, and I'm not afraid of sweating copper pipes.) And I'm sure we're talking at least a couple thousand dollars for the equipment and labor. Laura

I posted previously [nearly two months ago] about sediment and brackish water problems with our MT 540 Instant Hot water dispenser. Mountain Plumbing states that they are aware of these problems and state that they will replace the entire unit [not the hot water tank - just the faucet], although we still need to pay a plumber to remove the old one and install the new one. It is a huge annoyance and I am bereft without my hot water faucet. Sniff, sniff. Problem is: The finish is polished nickel and they are having problems getting the PN finish. Who knows WHEN I will get a new faucet. So just a forewarning to those thinking of purchasing a Mt. Plumbing instant hot or hot and cold dispenser: Make sure it is from new and recent stock - no older than six months old. If your distributor has had it longer than six months, you run the risk of having this problem somewhere down the road.
