What flooring for family room/kitchen/foyer/piano room (1-room combo)
Comments (2)I would not want wood in my entry, but we have severe winters, so we drag a lot of snow in with us for much of the year. I would also worry about scratching a wood entry floor, since we don't take our shoes off until we get indoors. Wood everywhere else, though....See MoreFamily room makeover
Comments (5)With two entrances plus the sliding door and an offset fireplace, you have a very challenging room. The first picture is so small that I can't quite make out what item(s) is on the right wall. Just a chair? I'm not so sure an ideal arrangement is possible! Some suggestions: if the mantel could be removed without leaving a gap in the brick, then you could center your TV right above the fireplace and the little cubby and you could float the chair closer to the couch. Or you could angle the couch towards the sliding door and fireplace and put the chair in the corner under the grouping of pictures. Or, if you don't mind blocking the fireplace cubby, you could angle a chair under the dog picture and put the TV against the wall where the chair is now. Furniture sliders would come in handy for trying out different possibilities....See MoreFamily room makeover needed ASAP
Comments (6)I'm no pro but this room doesn't look sterile to me. Plenty of personal touches. Why do you find it impersonal? What's missing to make it cozier for you? What's bugging you about the space beyond the fireplace and couch? Just asking these questions to get you to think about the space and formulate your action plan. I peeked at your ideabooks and saw only one living room - a picture of a couch you like, I think. Perhaps you want to collect a few inspiration pictures to guide you in styling this room? You've gotten some good advice about the layout. Once you pin that down, you can move on to the furnishings. When you choose those, high performance fabrics, sturdy bases and rounded edges are things to prioritize for the "bulls in a china shop". :) Good luck! Hope you'll keep us posted with your progress. With all that natural light and a fireplace, this room surely has the makings of "favourite room in the house"....See MoreFamily room makeover
Comments (14)Agree NO PAINTING the fireplace!! Notice how the outside chimney can be seen from inside the room. I would want all the brick to match. Leave it alone. The firebox screen needs updating. That and the floors will make a huge impact on the room. All the white in the sellers furniture is making the brick LOUD, it will fade with floors and your furnishings. Wait and see what you think before you jump into something you can't pull back. Pull the lightest tone from your brick for wall paint color. Agree that the fireplace/windows are all the 'feature' wall that room needs. Your skylight is dreamy....See MoreDonna D
