4 inch countertop backsplash or just tile chair rail ?
Comments (3)We used travertine with an onyx border and onyx liner to 42"H on the wall above the vanity with a large mirror in the hall bath. No problems at all, and it looks very nice. IMHO, the 4" backsplash looks too small. Besides, sink splashes and toothbrush drips can easily pass over the 4" backsplash. BTW, have the granite guy caulk the countertop to the tile, matching the countertop, not the tile grout. It looks better. For our master bath, we're planning on using a 6" granite backsplash atop the granite countertop, rather than the wall tile atop the countertop. It's purely for a different look....See MoreI need a really flat, glossy 4x4 backsplash tile
Comments (10)You might also want to take a look at Designs in Tile--their website is a little discouraging in terms of timing/availability, but they do sell overrun which might work for you. I ordered a sample from them and it is a nice flat old school looking tile. Not cheap, though. I ultimately decided to go with Subway Ceramics (installation scheduled for early April--FINALLY!) One warning about the Iron Gate tile--the tile shop warned me that I wouldn't be able to get the tight grout line I want with those tiles. I think they are handmade or something (and they are lovely), but in any case the tile size (apparently) varies enough that they need a bit thicker grout line. Just in case that is a consideration for you. Here is a link that might be useful: Designs in Tile...See MoreWould you do a 4 inch backsplash in granite and then tile?
Comments (22)So sorry to be late to respond about the cutout in my island. 1. I have cabinets and a susan under the seating side (can't tell from the picture but the cabinets are U-shaped underneath); 2. Wouldn't be able to easily reach to clean the island with the half wall; 3. Wanted the three of use to be able to see eachother when we eat (I sit right in the curve). I did a partial renovation of the kitchen and reused cabinets and then added some. My window shelf is so convienent. Its six inches deep... the same as the regular window sill, (2x6 framing)...See MoreNeed to see tile above built-in back splash
Comments (6)Michelle - I have a feeling what you said was important but I don't get it. lol Maybe I need a little more caffeine this morning then I'll read it again. Bill - Thanks for posting those. I noticed all three have repeated the color of the counter top in the back splash with accents and I think that helps tie it together. It is too late to change my counter top to not have a built-in back splash. I do think he originally said it was going to be more expensive without one but I ended up special ordering a counter top with a full bull-nose edge so after I did that, I probably could've gotten one without the back splash as well but I didn't think of it. Cheryl - Are you working on yours yet? I like to see it when it's done. Ok Michelle - I read that again and it makes more sense now. Just needed a little diet coke. lol I do like the half round trim that dinobambino added to hers....See MoreGracie
