If the walls already are painted with a high gloss paint, especially an oil-based paint, you are going to need a lot of surface preparation to get the job done right, anyway. If you are going to do the job yourself, and if you go to the trouble of the required surface prep, from that point on, covering the surfaces with one of the new nonwoven, dimensionally stable "wallpapers," such as those in Rasch's Barbara Becker Collection, is actually easier than the effort to do a first-class paint job. At least that was our experience. FWIW, the very highly reflective (makes the room brighter) Rasch wall covering that we applied is not identified by brand name at The Internet Wallpaper Store, www.wallpaper.com, but is product 570631 there. It has been in our powder room for going on two years now, looks as good as the day we hung it, and it goes well with the diverse colors of the white toilet and sink, brushed nickel faucet, towel rack, and toilet roll holder, and the translucent bronze glass tile of the sink backsplash. Yayagal, I will take a look at Caribbean Breeze since it does look very pretty in the pictures I found online. Annie, your bathroom is so pretty. I wish I had a white pedestal sink instead of all the bone in my small bathroom. But if I change out the vanity, sink and toilet in one bathroom, then I would want to do it in the two other bathrooms that I have and the cost would be too much as I have other things in the house I want to do. I will bring home paint chips and see what I like with the bone color. I also will look for inspirational pictures online and see if there are any pictures with bone sinks and toilets. Southerngal25, that sounds so pretty! Please post pictures if you can when you are done decorating your bathroom. I do have a green shower curtain in the middle bathroom and olive towels in the Master bathroom since green seemed to go well with the bone but the walls with the Deep Cream are bothering me and I want to change the color. I am using towel paper in the guest bathroom so the room really has no color at all. Thank you all for replying. Anyone else?

Well the beauty about gray is that there are tons with blue and green undertones that are quite beautiful and would add life to the space. Or you can get blue that is grayed down to keep it from looking too stark. I googled a search using Almond tile with gray's in a bathroom and found these, all of which I think are lovely. ETA I also hated the oak cabinet in our guest bath. Painted it black and it's beautiful again. This is SW Oyster Bay I'm not sure of the color names for these, but they at least help you to get a visual.

What does the rest of your bathroom look like? I’d do some nice wallpaper, and the rest just like you said. I’m no designer though. Depending on how far down the renovation road you want to go, perhaps consider replacing the floor tile to something more era appropriate? I think alot of bathrooms from this era had chrome (or something like it) hardware...but if you have original hardware that is brass, continue with that. I would think that the latches on the top cupboards will be an indication once you’ve got the paint off, whether the knobs etc should be brass or chrome(?) I’m not even sure whether you have to put the baking soda in...I’ve done it with and without and it’s worked both ways.
