Name That Plant!

Help ID a new seedling

Old Forester ( Zones 8a-6a ) Ga/NC

last month

Last fall I collected some seed from my Silene Regia and Lobelia cardinalis plants and spread the seed in some large bare dirt containers filled with a mixture of potting and purchased top soil. Had fairly good germination and just finished separating the plants into smaller containers. Very few weed plants emerged but did have quite a few of one, I'm not sure what it is.

Silene regia - consistent with my existing plants

Lobelia cardinalis - consistent with my existing ones

The unknown - I believe all of these to be the same

The second picture of the unknown appears to have flowers or calyxes at leaf axils in a couple of spots. Looks weedy to me.

Is picture 2 just one plant? Looks like a dandelion with another small seedling in the center.

vaguely reminds me of prunus serotina.. have any cherry trees around ... or more broadly prunus.. apple.. cherry.. etc ... i cant really see a stem.. so it makes it hard .. if its a tree.. and i realize i am thrashing wildly here... its been there for 2 seasons... your presumption it just sprouted might be faulty ... i would NOT bet my shiny nickle on any of the above .. lol.. ken

PM2, I would separate them into individual seedling if possible, or make as small an hunk as you can and pot them up in 4 inch pots using miracle grow potting mix. Give them another week or 2 after doing that I you will be surprised how fast a big they will get. I did that with some cleome seedlings 2 weeks ago that where still so small, they looked like pathetic little things. 2 weeks later they had grown 4 inches and I planted them in the garden this past Saturday. More likely an oak in the white group, but that isn’t definite. Oak seedlings are VERY difficult to ID their first season. A bit easier by the second...but I have grown oaks from seed that didn’t start producing leaves typical of the species until about the third season!

callirhoe123, pretty sure it's one plant and pretty sure it's a cardinal flower, but you are having me second guess! Seedlings are like a box of chocolates ! Time will tell.

floraluk2, you may be right, and I have added that plant to my landscape. It did enter my mind and decided to pot them instead of discarding. Glad I did, I will find them a home.

Plant in pic 2 appears to have rough leaves, so not Taraxacum. You could test by tearing a leaf. T. Would have milky sap.
