Thanks a lot for the responses thus far. I'm not even sure what to look for at the lighting sites since there is so much selection. I guess I forgot to mention what sort of style or finish we're looking for in my original post. A stainless / brushed nickle finish would be best since it will mathch the stainless appliances and stainless or chrome faucet. I like the idea of the Jetson Island one in terms of being supported off of a couple of wires, but I don't like the "shade". I would want something that light can shine through. Downlighting is what I'm trying to avoid since I'll have potlights for that. I like one posted above with the nickle frame, but it hangs too low (also a bit too pricey... :) ) I looked at Restoration Hardware earlier (thats the only lighting site that I can go to without being overwhelmed). I like that rectangular shade, but I'm worried it would get grungy after a few years. Anyways, thanks a lot so far. Hopefully someone can point out the perfect light for me. Dan

I'm not a lighting expert, but I think you would need a fixture that either has light that goes both up and down....or get the maximum wattage that you can get! Below are some examples. This fixture has 6 bulbs that can be 100 watts each....that's 600 watts total.....a lot of light!!!! And the price is nice! I would start by saying the scale of the current light is pretty good it has some weight to it to balance the table and chairs. I feel like the cage light might be too light of a fixture for the space, something longer with the same feel might be nice. I would also suggest a piece of art to fill the space between the sconces, and then pick sconces that work all the way around. I would remove the small one between the windows entirely as it seem a little under scaled.

The picture is misleading. The beam doesn’t hang over the bed—it is just past the foot of the bed. Still close, but not directly over.
