My hair is awful. Its stopped falling out but isnt getting any thicker. I have given up hope that it will ever get back to normal or even close.

My sister complains aobut her hair all the time. She tried the Nutrifol pills and the generic monoxidil, but she couldn't stand the taste and smsell of the Nutrifol, and she thinks the minoxidil is supposed to work in 30 days (LOL!) and stopped using it. She is more impatient than I am :).

The minoxidil is not Rx.

straitlover, I saw essentially no improvement until month 3 when I saw a lot so you may let your sister know. They say 3-6 mos at least.

I have a lot of thinning, and have from a pretty young age - like in my mid 30's. It's genetic. I thought they'd have a better solution by the time it got this bad in my 50's, but no such luck. Last night I took a picture. Wow, even more than I thought. I've decided it will be my before picture. I'm just not great at patience and follow through, so we shall see. I ordered generic minoxidil last night.

I had been using some Matrix Biolage products for some years now and didn't really think anything about my hair until I suddenly noticed a bit of thinning in the very front at my bangs. Then I, for no real reason, switched shampoo and conditioner to a Garnier line and would you believe, my hair has gotten thicker again. So weird! I won't be using the Matrix again! You can bet on that!

I'm also so jealous. NOTHING is working for me. I tried the minoxidil for a year. Nada. I'm working with a dermatologist now and we're trying various prescriptions, but so far....nada.

Ally De have you considered the PRP injections? It is advertised around here (Denver area) to help with hair loss. I would definitely see an MD and not an aesthetician if thinking about that route.

localeater, yes the minoxidil I got is a mousse product and I'm applying it each night. I figure that's best as, I'm probably not consistent in applying it -- between parting the hair in various places and then smearing the stuff on -- but over the course of several days, I'm probably covering most of my scalp.

Annie, it looks great! Thanks for posting a photo of your hair when it's dried. It makes all the difference.

What's surprising to me is I expect to see a lot of short fluff at the roots but it's all very smooth, like your thicker hair has been there all along.

I know someone who had chemo a year ago and opted for the "cold cap." It actually worked pretty well to minimize hair loss, although there was still plenty of thinning, especially around the hairline where it's harder to get a snug fit (think bathing cap). So when her hair started growing back, there wasn't short fuzz all over, but it grew up intermingled with long strands that hadn't fallen out. It made for some laughs as it was sort of thatchy. Your hair has none of that look. Lucky you!

Annie, have you shared which exact product you are using? You mentioned that you apply each night. Does it make your hair sticky? Do you have to wash your hair the next day if you are going out in public?

No it does not make my hair sticky. The Virtue product did make my hair stiffer and more matte. This one does not. My hair has a lot of shine and is healthy (I've never colored my hair.) I find I don't *have* to wash my hair the next day with this product, though if I want my hair to look my best, I will.

Just got my hairs cut, and the hairdresser said she could see little short hairs growing so it's definitely working.

My hairdresser says the same thing. I lost a LOT of hair during and after my two Covid episodes last September. I briefly tried a collagen supplement which I dc’d after reading more about the efficacy of such supplements, and I did try a shampoo recommended on this thread that does make my hair appear thicker 🙂 I’m still using it as my first lather.

The flyaway ”baby” hairs are pretty annoying. I don’t want to shock or discourage them with a full keratin treatment right now so I’m using a leave in keratin (called: It’s a 10) that is applied to the hair after it is toweled dry. Now I just need time and patience.

Nice, Annie! I may add that to my regime. Although i can tell some of my hair is growing back, its got a way to go. I use a dot of Milbon oil to tame the flyaway new growth.

My friend and former co-worker used Rogaine (this was 8 years or so ago) and she said it was likely a life-long commitment. I don’t see her often since she moved but her hair still looks full and curly.

I wonder if it would work on eyebrows? My one brow is obviously thinner than the other and now I need to use a brow pencil to fill it in.

I've read that it is not recommended for eyebrows but that Latisse might be. I'd ask a dermatologist first. My eyebrows have thinned and I have one or two gray ones in there, but I just used my eyebrow powder to fill in.

OutsidePlaying, my hair has always looked shiny and healthy. I think that's because I don't color it at all...never have. However I still have the burning scalp sensation, so whatever the rogaine is doing for growth, it hasn't fixed that issue for me.
