battling a sinus infection...
Comments (23)I'd never heard of a netti pot either, until about a year ago when a friend told me about them. Tonight, no sinus pressure/agony, so that's great! Still stuffy, but much less than before. Magothyrivergirl, my quilting class is this coming Tuesday. I thought about calling the teacher and canceling or postponing it, but I am starting to feel better and I've really been looking forward to it. I wouldn't mind going sick for my own sake, but I'd sure hate to get the teacher or other students (if there are any, it will likely one on one) sick. I also buy the pre-packaged salt packets for the netti pot made by the same manufacturer... not cheap, 8 dollars for 50 packets, but when you're sick, convenience matters more than money. I can't imagine me trying to measure 1/4th teaspoon of anything while enduring that kind of pain... I' probably miss the spoon and dump all the salt on the floor. Plus, I buy iodized salt normally, so I'd either have to buy another jug of non-iodized just for that or used kosher if that will work too (does anyone know if it will in a pinch?). Colleen, thank you for the heat pack suggestion. Last night when the pain was so intense, I filled my hot water bottle (you know the puke orange/pink rubber thing that is also used for enemas) with hot water and just pressed it against my face. After about a half hour it really did seem to help. I just wish there was something instant! I guess prevention is the thing to remember from here on out. About the Sudafed... I have gotten the kind from behind the pharmacy counter before, but it was so long ago that I forgot how well it worked or even if it did. This time I got the Sudafed PE, the pharmacy counter was closed at 2 AM :o), and I'm taking it every 4 hours like the package says. I'm keeping it in my system, and I think that's the reason I didn't have pain tonight. No pain induced mishaps today... I did put apricot exfoliating facial scrub on my Sonicare thinking it was toothpaste, but that's just because I'm absent minded :o) And I realized it before sticking it in my mouth! Thank you all for helping me get through this! Hopefully, I can resume life now!...See MoreA vintage find and a plea for help
Comments (10)I take pseudoephedrine, usually one 30mg tablet at a time works, and I start taking it as soon as I suspect anything. So far it's worked. The new stuff (phenylephrine) sends my heart rate soaring, so I can't take it. I don't care if they think I'm making meth in the basement. I don't know what I'll do if they ever decide to take pseudoephedrine off the market, I'm allergic to the most useful antibiotics, as well as Tylenol (acetaminophen), so I'm obsessive about heading off sinus infections. I don't take any combination medicines any more, they have too much useless stuff that I don't need. If I need the individual ingredients, I can buy the generic form for many, many dollars less than the combination meds....See MoreAre you allergic to anything?
Comments (46)I grew up with asthma and eczema due to environmental allergies. Also have a serious allergy to peanuts, one of my first memories is refusing to eat a peanut butter sandwich because it gave me a tummy ache. Still have environmental allergies and peanut allergy and have added allergies to tree nuts, melons and avocado. If I eat a lot then it's bad, if I eat a trace then I have a mild stomach ache that lasts for weeks. It mimics hunger pangs so I eat and eat. Awful. Terribly allergic to cats but if I give the dogs a bath every few weeks I'm fine with them. Apparently I'm reacting to the pollens and such that get into their fur more than the dander as their licking annoys me but doesn't cause any problem. A couple times a kiss from a large dog has caused a reaction though. When I was commuting to college by bicycle I could ride through a mild asthma attack, that was wonderful. Sometimes I can walk through one nowadays. There's a Ukrainian physiologist who developed breathing patterns to correct the panicked pattern that asthmatics do, suspect that is what was going on when I rode or walked through a mild attack. It isn't supposed to work but it does for me....See MoreAllegra D side effects
Comments (19)Ravencajun, I am so sorry that you had that bad experience. The doctor told me to get Afrin because it helps with the nosebleed. I use it as directed, only when my nose is bleeding. It helps to slow down the flow of blood. What I don't enjoy is standing over the bathroom sink watching my blood run down the sink in a river. That scares the bejeesus out of me and makes me feel weak in the knees. Worse is trying to tilt my head back because I gag on the blood that goes down my throat. I spray with Afrin and put the nose clamp on for an hour to stop it. I'm really not a nasal spray person, I understand the risk of nasal spray addictions and usually only use saline spray or very occasionally Flonase. The first thing that happened when I got into Urgent Care was that they sprayed my nasal passages with oxymetazoline hydrochloride to try to stop the bleeding that had at that time been going on for 6 hours and was really frightening my husband and me. We were afraid that I was going to bleed to death. I promise that once this now intermittent bleeding stops, I will throw out the Afrin, I'm only using it when the bleed kicks up. Sometimes, just showering or slipping a clean shirt on is causing my nose to bleed. It starts bleeding when I am asleep. It's scary to me since I've never experienced this in the past. It is really hard to not blow the clots from my nose, but I don't dare....See More- 10 months ago
