Anyone do away with their kitchen table & create an island table combo
Comments (10)Sure, we did this in a house (that we have since sold). I designed it and I loved it. We didn't have room to have the big kitchen we wanted PLUS a standalone table, but did have room to make the island bigger with seating. We also had a separate dining table. We really enjoyed this set up (and didn't use the dining table unless we had extra people visiting). We had no problem with the counter height, though my elderly father did not like it. Also, it was admittedly a huge pain for the period my son was in a high chair because there are no chairs that tall. We still had plenty of room for island storage and didn't need any more kitchen cabinets. In fact, if we wanted to fit a table in the room, we would needed to cut out some cabinets. This allowed us to maximize cabinets. We're currently designing another kitchen for our other condo, and also struggling to fit all of the cabinets I want plus a table. The island seating is the perfect solution. I also really liked sitting at that island while my husband cooked and vice versa. Much more casual and intimate than sitting at a kitchen table. Comments (6)Thanks Megs. I've been wondering whether a drop leaf would work. That PB is too large but good food for thought. I like some of those ones on Wayfair. It would be helpful to see things in person or else have a way to return that doesn't incur a fee. (i.e. return to a local store, if needed). Yeah, I'm finding 24x36 is hard to find. I've been checking craigslist for a temporary table. There had been one that was 30" square. I felt kind of meh on it so by the time I responded, someone was lined up to pick it up. Thanks for your food for thought. Silverlined--sorry for the confusion. By work surface, I meant I want to be able to sit there with my laptop and papers, and be able to spread out (not a cooking work surface). Sorry for the confusion....See MoreTv stand, coffee table, new kitchen table?
Comments (14)If you have the space on your tv wall - for a long, low console - it would be good. You can set tv on console or mount on the wall. You could also mount the tv with an articulating arm, if that would be helpful in your space. As one idea - this blue one: https://www.litfad.com/scandinavian-engineered-wood-tv-media-stand-matte-finish-media-console-with-drawers-s-2518979.html?language=en&currency=USD&gclid=CjwKCAjw8JKbBhBYEiwAs3sxNyeUjZSAQSak4zlyzjNqbF7ufoir7KPdNQXLGMYwS5FxR5leXq3XlxoC7J0QAvD_BwE I think an ottoman is still an idea, too:...See MoreNeed help finding a kitchen table to go with my dated kitchen!
Comments (5)Except for the white walls and white Island, that's pretty much my kitchen. I turned the non -kitchen part into a "keeping room". I have two comfortable reading chairs and a bookcase full of cookbooks on the back wall. And I have a small dining table close to the island because there's just the two of us. The reading chairs are upholstered in a gold-colored checked fabric. And I keep a cheerful tablecloth on the table. This helps lighten the mood of that room considerably. You probably shouldn't try to match the wood tone. Nor should you go for painted furniture in there. The cabinetry may be a bit dated, but once you get your decorations in there, it should be a lovely space....See Morelikestonehomes
