Comments (105)Seaside - I hope it works! :) :) Kristine - I am so in love with your Lavender Crush. I hope I can find one next year! Beautiful Twilight zone color. :) :) I hate it when the camera won't take the right color from the rose...very frustrating. I'm so glad that you saved Sweet Madame Blue...she's a beauty...and the color is wonderful....See MoreTime to share LAVENDER/PURPLE Roses
Comments (82)Lynn, just doing some more thinking here (ha). Have you tried soil acidifier on Ascot? I like the Hi-Yield brand which contains sulfur, iron, and other stuff. I only use acidifier on roses like the hybrid musk Ballerina, which hates alkaline soil and becomes very chlorotic. It could be that the multiflora, which supposedly doesn't like alkaline soil, either, is causing the problems. The soil here is probably not as alkaline as your soil. You could also use fertilizer for acid loving plants, which I do for all my roses. I think this alone helps a lot. I don't think your Ascot looks bad at all--lots of new canes on the plant in fact. Comments (41)I too ordered the Brindebella Purple Prince from Hirt's, and now I'm wondering whether Hirt's is mistakenly misrepresenting it as the "Purple Prince" rose by Nola Simpson from New Zealand. Anyone know? There is a "Brindebella Purple Prince" sold wholesale by Sun Fire Nurseries in the U.S., and that's what appears to be the rose sold by Hirt's: http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.72335.2&tab=1. I'm certain this is the Hirt's-sold rose, because Hirt's sells another rose from the "Brindebella" line that Sun Fire Nurseries markets. There is a different "Purple Prince" rose bred by Nola Simpson in New Zealand and sold by Style Roses in the U.K. That's the one with the impressive photos, claims of very strong fragrance from 6"-inch blooms. http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.72745&tab=1. But the "Brindebella Purple Prince," according to the info from the patent application that is on HelpMeFind.com, was bread in Australia by Sylvia and John Gray, and the blooms are only 4". Maybe someone at Hirt's marketing team Googled "Purple Prince" and then copied and pasted the info and photos from the Style Roses website in the U.K.? Oh well. The Brindebella looks great too, and the patent application claims "complete" resistance to black spot and strongly fragrant blooms. Sounds good....See MoreAn possible alternative to ebb tide and twilight zone
Comments (85)Gardening_7b I am not an expert, I just like purple and some of those are newer and small. Lol After looking at HMF, it looks like the Purple Princes are two different roses. My BPP was planted last fall so is very small, a little over a foot tall, but has bloomed and it was a medium-dark magenta so far, it seems very healthy so far. It may change when it matures. I live in z5a Wisconsin so can't comment on da "heat". We rarely get up to 95 degrees in the summer, we can get bad humidity and low 90's for 7-10 days in the summer just as -10-20 in the winter for the same number of days, 46 inches of rain per year average. :) Diane, your roses get so huge! I get some rogue canes that are 5' tall but so far nothing consistent. That Clown Prince is a very pretty rose with the variations of color. I put Ebb Tide so it gets late afternoon shade because I didn't know if it faded and the hottest time of the day here is about 4:00. We'll see what experience I get with Big Purple, it's always fun to compare with other areas of the country. :)...See MoreRelated Professionals
