Design Dilemma living room

Accent chair or no accent chair? New rug or not?

Currently bought a killer deal $460 on this west elm couch. The chaise isn't where we want it, but couldn't pass the opportunity.

The fish tank will be donated to a friend
I would like to possibly put an accent chair (preferably navy blue) or whatever color may look good (repose grey walls and light couches with c&B coffee table).
I would also swap the rug out to bring out the color in the accent chair and throw pillows matching the accent color

Same for artwork above mantle

4.Maybe even a console table behind the couch to put decor or plants?

Should we go accent chair and just leave the side of the room blank and eyes have a rest or go accent chair to add color?

Any constructive critism would be greatly appreciated.

I think you have room for an accent chair and a console table. Relocate the dog bed and put the chair there and the console behind the sofa with two lamps on it. Choose a rug you love first and pull a color from that for the accent chair (something lighter than navy). Push the rug back further under the sofa so it doesn’t overlap your fireplace hearth. Clear the mantle of the tiny stuff and find some great large art.

On second thought, skip the console! The wall behind your sofa serves the same purpose. Maybe just pull the sofa away from the wall a few inches to give everything a little breathing room.

Not worried about watching TV in that room for big parties. We have a separate family room with the good TV. Will try moving away from wall a tad. @JudyG I agree with you on the rugs but the challenge is the dining room area is flanked by a stairway on one side and the hallway on the other. I assume I definitely don't want the dining rug to protude into the hallway area, but perhaps would be okay if some went in front of the stairs.

the room is sooooo not the way i want it but i will post a pic in the daylight tomorrow. We have a nursing chair in the living room, and random furniture making the room padded lol for our new walker. For now here is one of the walls that kind of somes up our style and no baby stuff is near except the plant we had to put up there because its apparently poisonous.!

Congrats on your sofa deal! Decide whether to purchase an accent chair based on need for more seating, how often it will be used, and if the angle of where it will be placed will block the door, be conducive to conversation. Do not purchase it for the sake of bringing more color into the room.

Find a rug you like. If you need a chair, base it and the rest of your new purchase on the colors in your rug.

I’d consider turning your rug 45 degrees to align with the fireplace. The corner touching the hearth is a bit awkward. I like this dynamic effect.
