To the right of the sofa, to the left of the sofa or to the right of the window or something else??? powermuffin - The walls are SW Blonde, which I chose because the room faces north and I wanted to 'warm it up'. The previous color was a much lighter beige, off-white or cream. There are times I would like to go back to something in that family, not so 'gold'. I also picked the color to go with the gold in the plaid. I'd like to repaint, but it's a big job (LR, DR and hallway) and I'm not sure DH will be on board. deb - I'll be there again next week, but I'm sure you need to get to Costco sooner than then. I love the idea of a shared ottoman! The plaid chairs work there, but I still would like new chairs. I have thought about recovering them, but I'd like something a little larger scale. I think I'll take my chances on a bergere chair at the shop that is on it's last month. If it's still there, it will be marked down even further. If you have the chance to stop by next week and it's still there, I'll show it to you and see what you think. Today at the consignment shop, I looked at a cute triangle shaped table that might work between the newly arranged plaid chairs. I'm going to mock up the shape with paper tonight and see if I think it will work. I don't know why I didn't take a picture of it while I was there. :(

Thanks. The shelves were put in because the house is very open and I felt the art was becoming too "boxy" around the perimeter of the house so thought the shelving would help to break that pattern while still maintaining some flow - but I know you can't see the whole house from the one photo of the eating area that I've posted. The rug suggestion might help, thanks... I'm still not settled on the chair but aiming for the taupe or dark brown. Thanks for the tip on the backless stools. Maybe just a lower back then - I feel like all you see in the space is chairs. A few have also suggested a new chandelier so I will definitely look into that as well. The chairs come first since they really need to be replaced.

I like the new chairs you are considering with your others I would not do kilim or juts in that space with those cahirs but maybe look for a great deal on a traditional persian rug and a round coffee table . IMO go for that old library look and I would for sure do drapes not blinds and remove what looks like a fake plant too. You will need to add some lighting for sure if there are no pot lights and just try for the ambiance of a library you are almost there .
