Comments (37)Well its good to be back for the alphabet. Kind of a down year for Hosta for me. I'm fighting too many Maple tree roots or just dry clay soil on a slope and I had quite a few getting smaller. Plus being busy and away from this computer and not taking as many pictures and only getting them organized now. (I had decided it it was too much trouble but after looking through your photos, I caught the bug again. And I did manage to take a few good photos, so maybe it wasn't as bad as I remember.) - Thanks for the therapy. On to the A's!! Everybody's' favorite (or it should be) with colors that just glow - Amalia Ann Kulpa Apple Candy has the loveliest, almost pastel, frosty colors And one of my favorite chartreuses, always well-behaved and quite vibrant - Appletini...See MoreHosta H 2023 ...........................
Comments (31)Debra - your Hanky Panky may be the best one I've seen. Such clean crisp colors and perky, folded leaves for August. peren - yours is massive and really showcases how pretty the variation in colors can be. And it has such a variation in appearance through the year. Mine inevitably gets some weird combination of leaf colors . . . Here's mine in May before the colors get confused High Voltage - one where the color changes from very subtle variegation to not-so-subtle. Here it is in the middle of the transition. This just keeps getting better. One I always look forward to just beginning to put on some of that Sum and Substance Size - How About That!...See MoreHosta X Y & Z 2023 ...................................................
Comments (20)old_dirt very nice YM. Ann really interesting about the raccoon dogs. I had never heard of them and I always think if I have not learned something new each day what was the point. Paula Zounds is a good one. I wish mine had survived being in a pot for too long. Debra Yankee Blue has such good colour. Zebra Stripes holds colour very well. New growth comes up green later in the season and then stripes. It gives an interesting contrast. Lisa I hope your YSR rebounds to former glory but I still thing it looks pretty darn good. mbug another nice YR. Beth nice form on your YR....See MoreHosta Companion 2023 ......................
Comments (60)indianagardengirl, your hellebores are loaded! I want to plant more this year. Right now mine are under snow, but we need the water so I'm not complaining! debra, you don't want to be cutting down daffodil leaves. It's hard to place bulbs so that we don't mind seeing them die back, but that's how they'll get energy to come up next year. But it's nice when we can finally clear the dead leaves away....See Morebkay2000
