Please help choosing backsplash tile!!!
Comments (14)chloesmom, your kitchen is beautiful! I was so hesitant about dark cabinets but seeing yours, katienic's and others here have convinced me that my kitchen will be beautiful with the dark cabinets. I love what you did for the backsplash areas, it's so creative! You've given me some ideas as the areas I have to cover are similar to yours in size (under the counters and the space behind your sink). I love how you combined the glass with the subway tiles. I'm going to ask my KD if that can be done. Remodelfa, unfortunately I'm not a DIYer so have no idea how to cut tiles in half! But those are good ideas. I'm going to Home Depot today to see what they offer. Wildcat22, thank you! There is no name behind the sample but there is a company name. If you look on http://granitplus.com/en/index.php under classic granite #105, that is the one. Actually, going on the website has opened my eyes to other options! One little piece of granite does not give you the same impression when you see the entire slab! I'm going to check out other options now!...See MorePlease help me choose my backsplash tile
Comments (33)Ok, ok, you mentioned Santa Fe, and my mind immediately went to a mexican tile mosaic that someone here at GW has used in a vertical orientation. This is not at all what you've been looking at, but I just have to show it to you. I love that mosaic, and it could work for you in the horizontal application throughout the kitchen, but it is miles away from what you're drawn to. OK, now that that's out of my system, here's what I think might work for you on the subtler side. The tile below is a mesh mounted mosaic and the sheet measures about 10.5" x 11", so you get an idea of the tile size, very roughly, 3" w x 4" t. The solid color field tile below in the same glaze (light green) is available in square and subway formats in a variety of sizes. I think in order to keep the look cohesive you should either keep the color the same and use a different shape for the special areas, or keep the shape the same and use a harmonizing, deeper color for the special areas. So, you could choose a light green brick subway for your counter area, and a light green ogee mosaic for the special areas. Or, you could use the ogee everywhere, in yellow quartz for the counter areas, and light green for the special spots....See MorePlease HELP me ! What type of Backsplash would you choose?
Comments (28)Don't rush the decision because the contractor is ready to tile!!! The backsplash can wait until you find exactly what you want. People on this site have waited up to a year or maybe even longer to do the B/S. If you're not sure and want to wait, maybe you can get a credit from your contractor and have an independent tile installer recommended from where you buy the tile do it down the road. If we hadn't decided to do a full-height granite B/S, I would have waited to see how everything came together and then taken my time to shop...there were too many other decisions that have to be made that you CAN'T wait on...the B/S you can!...See MorePlease Help me choose a Backsplash for my new kitchen!
Comments (11)I realized it was granite after I posted and held the notebook closer! lol Using hex tiles would be interesting too, but square would look fine also. Have you glanced through the FKB? Lots of ideas there. Oh..and my manners; I was so busy copy/pasting/looking at photos, I forgot to say your kitchen is beautiful.
