I have mostly 3-drawer stacks, but also a few 4-drawer stacks in key locations.

I don't have any cabinets with pull-out inserts, except for a blind corner unit with a Hafele Lemans.

Make sure you have heavy duty drawer hardware and thicker bottoms for the wide drawers that are going to hold heavy stuff.

“Custom” cabinets by a ”cabinet builder” sometimes means partial overlay construction which I advise against. Make sure you are clear on the type of construction your cabinets will be: partial overlay, full overlay, frameless, or inset.

Rev-a-Shelf makes a lot of things. What did you mean exactly? Some of their things are very worthwhile, and some are overpriced add-ons that you would have been better off to spend that money elsewhere in your kitchen. If by ”pull-out drawers” you also mean those spice pullouts on either side of the cooktop, don’t get those.

Get adjustable dividers for large platters and sheet pans/cookie sheets. As needs have changed, I’m happy I didn’t customize cutlery and cookware drawers. Instead of standard counter depth, I’d add another two inches, room permitting.

What do I wish I had more of cabinet wise? Nothing. I did all base cabinets as drawers except 2 sink bases. I have a number of wide drawers, some narrower 3 stacks and 4 stacks. I have one super susan, a tray pull out which I love and a trash pullout. I added aftermarket drawer dividers and silverware tray. I do not have any pullout spice racks. I keep spices in a drawer and upper cabinet.

I have not liked the layout of my built in cutlery and utensil drawers. So if you are getting them, ask more questions and take measurements vs assuming. I did adjustable, vertical dividers in most of my drawers and love them. I did one horizontal version for my spice drawer and love it too. They did it in a creative way where it looks more custom than stock (4 moveable pegs that the divider slides over to look very built in). It keeps everything in its place. I have a 10” floor to ceiling pullout next to the fridge. It’s great for oils and other dry goods. I did 3 toe kick drawers. I feel meh about them, but they messed up the height of the cabinet above my ovens, so it’s a bit high for me, and so the toe kicks have been nice for cookie sheets, etc. They are also easier for a big platter than wouldn’t fit in my uppers. I would have liked to have been able to keep my pots and pans on their side in drawers to avoid stacking, but we only have stacks of 3, so it’s too shallow. Some stacks of 4 probably also would have been nice since we don’t need the depth for everything. But I do like the symmetry we were able to achieve with just 3s. That sums up my wins and regrets from our recent remodel!

Make sure you get pull out trash. Nothing sadder than a brand-new kitchen with a trash can in full view.

I would want something like this to make it easy to open the pullout trash without touching it. (No actual experience with that brand or any other but it’s something I would want. There are electric ones too but I wondered if it would be opened if the power is out.)

We have the rev a shelf servepro where you bump the pullout trash for hands free. Works great! And you would still be able to use it with the power out since you can still pull it open if you want.

We’re in the middle of our new kitchen design, so following along!

My wants (and mostly gots) for my small kitchen: all base drawers, including a 15" drawer/pullout designed to hold 2 bins (cat litter sized bins) - one each of dog kibble and cat kibble. 2 shallow drawers above the dog/cat food section for my more frequently needed tools, tape, clips, pens scissors, matches, flashlights first aid etc etc. Floor to ceiling pantry with one shelf dedicated to a microwave, interior drawers instead of flat shelves (3" sides). Deep over fridge cabinet, where I keep my cookie sheets, pie and cake and muffin tins; rollout basket up there too for random things which allows me to see the stuff without pulling it all the way out (from Ikea). Custom sized corner cabinet with easy-reach door (smaller than standard, with one side wider than the other.) Trash/recycling/compost pullouts in the sink cabinet (offset drain and smaller garbager disposal make that work). I do have a 9" spice pullout which uses otherwise wasted space, and a matching 9" upper cabinet where my boxes and tins of tea and drink mixes live.- that was the most efficient design for me. Cabinets to the ceiling. NO built in organizers, just aftermarket items that allow me to rearrange and adapt. A 4 stack drawer unit sized for things like 1) dish towels, napkins 2) foil saran, parchment paper, baggies 3) smaller storage containers/lids 4) random other kitchen accessories (drying mat, extra potholders, and so forth)

What I would change? I have 3 deep drawers in a 35" wide stack. I would change the top drawer to 2 shallower drawers (or do a drawer-in-drawer) for more efficient organization of my silverware and utensils. A drawer-in-drawer might be nice for my pot lids, too, but the aftermarket organizers really are fine. I sort of wanted toe kick drawers (once I heard about them) but really don't need or miss them. I sometimes regret the design of the corner cab because there are no easy-access devices to fit its smaller size - but I still prefer having the larger drawers that the small corner made possible.

I strongly second Chispa's tip about making sure the drawer glides and bottoms are heavy-duty.
