Where do you put paper towels, wet dish towels, cutting boards,
Comments (35)Paper Towels: On a vertical stand next to my sink. I like having them handy. It is an inexpensive one from Target. In the past, I had them hanging under the upper cabinets. After we remodeled, I needed a new solution. I didn't think the countertop one would be stable, but it is and I really like it. I enjoying being able to grab the whole roll and take it to another room if I need to. Wet dish towels: I have a Rev-a-shelf hanging rod thing on the inside of one of my cabinet doors under the sink. I only use it occasionally though. Usually I have a dishtowel folded in half laying/hanging right on the counter where I stand at the sink. I use it for drying my hands, fruit, dishes, etc. throughout the day. It dries quickly. I have a dish drainer on one side of my double sink, so anything I hand wash usually just dries in there. If I've entertained and have extra hand washing with more dishes on a towel on the counter, then those go on the racks under the sink until they dry. Sometimes if I have one that is really wet and yucky, I just throw it on the tile floor in my laundry room (closet). It is the only tile I have in the whole house (I like to take advantage of it.) :) Cutting boards: In a vertically divided cabinet in one of my lowers. Plastic bags: I donate them to a food bank, so I throw them in the trunk of my car until I see my friend who takes them for me. :)...See MoreCutting board over sink - stone fabrication/ template advice need
Comments (6)I believe this is a standard cut requiring normal stone cutter skills. Your sink probably came with a template for the granite guy to use to make the sink cut out. In your case he would cut away just a bit more to give you a positive reveal. The only trick here is to be sure that your sink has sufficient lip to both have some exposed and to have enough left under the granite to secure the sink to the underside of the granite. In our case we sent our entire sink in the shipping box with the fabricator so he would make whatever measurements he needed. This should not be a big deal....See MoreSink Reveal - SS under granite & cutting board
Comments (2)First, granite installers will generally push for a negative reveal (as opposed to a positive or flush reveal) b/c it's easier for them...they don't have to be as precise & accurate in their cuts b/c the lack of the sink edge will not bring attention to crooked or uneven cuts around the sink. A positive reveal will allow you to place a custom cutting board across the sink. I don't have a pic b/c I don't have such a setup. What I do have, though, is a cutting board that sits over my prep sink, but it has an edge along the top that sits on top of my sink plus a thicker middle that sits inside the sink. Between the two (top edge & thicker middle), the cutting board fits over the sink and doesn't move around. (I hope this all makes sense since I don't have my camera right now to take a pic to show you.) I've linked to the cutting board on the Kohler site for you to see, but it only shows the top view, not the side view so you can see the two thicknesses. Have you read the "Stone Information" thread that's linked in the "Read Me" thread? It talks about the various reveals and their pros & cons. Here's the thread: Thread: Stone Information and Advice (& Checklists) Here is a link that might be useful: Kohler Hardwood cutting board, fits 15-3/4...See MoreUnder sink storage with small children
Comments (18)We stored all cleaners and hazardous things in an upper cabinet in our old kitchen. My kids are now 3.5 and almost 6 and we have just remodeled. The new kitchen has a knife insert in a drawer and also we keep dishwasher tabs under sink. Other than those two things, not much is unsafe at child's level. My 5 yr old took scissors from knife drawer to cut something the other day. I guess I may have to rethink the knife drawer or give them a talk on what's off limits. edited to add: our under sink cabinet is full from garbage disposal, RO water tank and system filters and trash bags. I should probably move the DW tabs into a different container or location....See Morebeesneeds
