Comments (7)I know nothing about Scherrs other than what I've read here. However, decorative side panels are typically just extra doors, so I assume they can provide those. For the 2 tier island, they are built in 2 ways. Most commonly, you build a pony wall, that comes up a few inches above the lower counter. The cabinets are attached to one side, and the upper counter goes on top of the wall. You can also get brackets that attach to the lower cabinet and the upper counter sits on top. 3 months ago@ Strawberry Patch Designs I would appreciate if you can connect me with the designer.
Also, I will be able to upload better plans shortly. Here is a pic of the ikea design with some comments:1.) We need to use 12" deep tall cabinet (or cabinets) for pantry on the left due to patio window/door
2.) Above fridge I like 24" deep 24" high cabinet
3.) on the right (passthrough to dinning room) we currently have a 42" cabinet with 4 glass doors - 2 each side). at the bottom 21" cabinet and wine fridge. I don't believe Ikea makes 21" cabinet
This is just a draft. Don't feel strongly about cabinet choices at this point.
Also, I am considering tradeoffs between reusing existing plumbing electrical vs ideal position as we try to minimize on finished basement below. This is the reason for the stove being in the Island. Similar, I am thinking about the option to move the Fridge just to the right of pantry cabinet. This way we would not need to touch plumbing electrical on the wall side.

Some of the design questions I have:
1.) what is your opinion if I moved the fridge to the right of the pantry cabinet? And then shift the rest to the right so that dishwasher is next to the L wall that is sticking out?
My motivation: to reduce plumbing and electrical work
2.) General Island design question. Is it common just to do the cabinets with 12" countertop overlay? Without any wall support? Should I be concerned about lost space inside cabinets for electrical outlets around? Ot could this fit in space between drawers and boxes? However, with frameless cabinets there isn that much space.
