I want a dishwasher with a two minute cycle
Comments (41)No, most people don't have the need for a "dish sanitizer" in their house. Either they do the whole job by hand, or they scrape off the big stuff with a fork or knife and let the machine do the job it was designed to. Why the need for such a quick cycle? If noise is the issue there are plenty of very quiet dishwashers on the market. All of that being said, the dishwasher you want has already been mentioned in this thread. Miele has a few models with 10-20 minute cycles that can fit into the same undercounter spot other residential dishwashers can. You're going to have to pay up, though; the dishwashers themselves cost thousands of dollars and that's not including the cost to have a 240V circuit installed....See MoreDouble Drawer Dishwashers
Comments (1)We had a Kitchenaid one in our previous house. Love it! I am remodeling kitchen now and plan to put in another one soon. It works great for our use pattern and it is very quiet. I did not use any special feature though. Mine did not require any changes to the cabinets, replaced my standard dishwasher with the double drawer ourselves. It was pretty easy. The only problem I had was that our bottom one stopped working after just a few years. Had to replace the motor and home warranty covered it. The repair guy said that happens a lot because we rarely use the bottom one, probably water got it....See MoreFisher Paykel two drawer dishwasher as a 2nd dishwasher?
Comments (21)zp99, I think as some others have said, I'd install a single drawer instead of the double as a second DW. You'd gain some cabinet/drawer space, and unless you really have a need to run 2 full-size DW's every week, I think it just makes more sense. We are installing a FP double integrated as our primary and only DW. I asked some questions about it in a POST a bit over a year ago, and at the end of the post is my review on what I felt I could fit inside. This was at the appliance store so of course I couldn't run it. Overwhelmingly, it seems those that have had them, love them. Having them installed properly seems to be paramount....See MoreDrawer dishwasher—Worth the expense to improve kitchen function?
Comments (25)I really appreciate all these comments, suggestions and perspectives. For the record, I definitely agree that the design of the whole kitchen is the problem, especially at the sink area. The reason I’m trying to keep costs (and work) very limited is that it is likely we will be doing more of a full kitchen renovation in future years, so it doesn’t seem to make sense to do half the job short-term (plus there are other home projects that are more pressing at the moment). When it comes time to re-do the kitchen, for instance, we will likely want to remove that defunct brick chimney that’s to the left of the sink. I’m not sure it makes much sense to get new counters and cabinets with the chimney still in place. We might add some square footage to the kitchen, or we might possibly move the kitchen into the current dining room. My secret dream is to build a big addition with the kitchen in a totally new space—but that’s probably not realistic. So that’s why it might not make sense to redo cabinets and counters at this stage. But I will likely HAVE to replace the dishwasher, which is what got me thinking If it’s worth kicking a small amount of money to lessening the issue, even if the issue isn’t fixed. A new dishwasher is something I could probably keep in a kitchen renovation, if it’s still doing well when the time comes. Anglophilia, can’t agree with hand-washing instead! ;). Did that every day in our last house, and again now whenever the dishwasher breaks. I’ll grumble and moan about the layout but still prefer it to hand-washing, especially now that I have kids! Nhb, no worries :) Dadoes, thanks for clarifying and correcting. The terminology isn’t my strong suit. Example: I also realized my first post referred to a French door fridge when I really meant a side-by-side fridge. I meant the double-drawer unit....See Morebbstx
