I don't like my backsplash...Should I send it back?
Comments (30)It doesn't look that bad to me. The pattern would practically disappear with a like-colored grout and would just be a subtle texture. If the color is off (which is best determined in person and in different lighting) it might always annoy you which is a good reason to send it back. But the photos don't look any worse than some others I've seen posted that have been "oooh"ed and "ahhh"ed. I think if you had posted how much you loved it, you'd have had just as many agree. To me, the black hardware and wood valance "speaks" of a more country (vs urban) look. But I don't know the overall effect you're hoping to achieve....See MoreI don't love my backsplash
Comments (24)I love the paint color, but I think I'm agreeing with Igloo in imagining that a shade or two darker would bring out the deeper tones in the backsplash and liven it up a bit. Right now the cabinets, backsplash, and wall are all the medium tones and are blending, rather than having some contrast and interest to energize the space. I also agree that the equal spacing of equally sized appliances/accessories on the counter create a monotonous rhythm, whereas some more interesting or even random grouping might be preferable. Maybe throw in a sugar and creamer or something of varied color, shape, and height to add to the mix....See MoreI don't think I'm happy with my backsplash :/
Comments (72)Have to agree with the above - it looks on my monitor that all of the backsplash tiles read green/blue and the countertop reads grey/brown and none of them seem to work together. The fireclay tiles posted by eam44 would look to be a much better match. I disagree above that you need some kind of focal point. I think it's a smallish kitchen and has lovely pendants, and windows and island and a bold backsplash is just competing with that. Keep it simple! In fact, i was the above writer who earlier said they pretty much always dislike the inset backsplash and i think your current BS is a perfect example of how those insets rarely look good. Even when the underlying colors are similar, as yours are, there's just something "off" about them. I think the only exception is when they are using almost the same tile (like, carerra subway tile BS with a carerra herringbone pattern inset). I still think this is busier than i like, but isn't an eyesore as so many other insets are. I think this inset mistake is actually a good opportunity to replace the whole thing!...See MoreI don't want a backsplash!
Comments (4)I did my kitchen in 2007. We sold the house Nov 2017. I had BM matte paint in a dark Thyme Green for ALL of the backsplash. The paint is 100% scrubbable after it cures for one month. When we sold the house it looked like it did when it was first painted. We had a 54" hood over the 36" gas high BTU cooktop which had a Miele built in deep fat fryer next to it. My DH stir fried almost every night. I never regretted having only paint. It always looked wonderful and clean after I used a soapy dishcloth on it. I wish I could post pics from Photobucket but I think they have new rules now. Sophie found a pic the other day of my DH stirfrying and posted it to illustrate how perfect our capture was with our ventilation. Don't be swayed by the demands for a backsplash. Just be sure and use VERY good paint and let it CURE 30 days. c here is a great link to pics of the NO BACKSPLASH kitchen https://www.houzz.com/discussions/kaw45-years-and-countinghe-woks-dsvw-vd~3730881?n=28...See Morecatspa_zone9sunset14
