I'm planning on getting infra-red faucets as well, i.e., proximity-sensor, automatic faucets (these are different than "hands-free," which typically describe foot or lever-actuated faucets). I haven't picked a vendor or brand either. I do know that you will pay more for a top-mounted mixing valve (which you'll probably want), so that you can adjust the hot-cold mixture at-will, without getting under the sink. The least-expensive faucets have either a fixed, or no adjustment. Another consideration is battery-powered or AC-powered (you'll need a junction box inside the vanity to power the AC kind).

I would probably go with a remote sensor faucet instead, the kind that turns on automatically when your hands get close to it. It stays clean and obviously no germs issue (I'm not a germophobe, but I've always despised sink faucets with round-ish knobs. I know everyone's hands aren't clean when they turn it on - that's why you're washing your hands in the first place - but you have to grasp a dirty knob to shut it off. 1/4-turn lever-type handles, or single-handle faucets where you lift the lever to turn on, push down to turn off are much better, since at least I can push the lever with the back of my hand to turn water off, and the front or top of the lever in theory should be relatively clean.)

Hi Sharon, If you haven't already done so, I would contact Rohl myself and ask them what gives, that you now know of 4 faucets that have failed. My DH said it sounds like they may have made a change in O-rings or something. I've linked Rohl's website below. Its a nice faucet, and one I was considering for the same reasons you selected it. I think Cucina makes a similar faucet with a "gear shift" lever similar to Herbeau's. I discounted it bec the only one I saw on display appeared to have a tiny leak at the spout (or maybe it was just left over water from the last person to use it). Yes, I was thinking something more like the Delta Pilar. The touch-activated faucets are a bit pricey, but if you add up the cost of a top quality faucet, plus adding something like a Tapmaster, plus installation, you have a comparable product without the hassle and IMO a better look. If you're thinking of aging in place, remember that foot controls can be a problem later in life too. There have been quite a few Tapmaster discussions here on GW. Good luck on your choice. p.s. At our office we discovered the the problem with our motion detector faucets was the grime an scale buildup on the sensor. Our building's cleaning staff now keeps up on them and they work much better.
