Media Room color: walls, ceiling, crown molding
Comments (14)Thanks for all the help. I'm adjusting my mind to the idea of a really dark ceiling and trying to imagine how the room will look when the room isn't being used as a "theater". I probably should have said in my original post that this our general rec room and will probably also act as the grandchildrens' "dorm" at some point. This room also has two windows and a glass door to a porch. I was planning on using white plantation shutters in the rest of the house and I don't think the white plantation shutters will work well for light control. Since these windows will be very visible from the street do you think it's important to keep the window treatments uniform or can I do something different on these windows from the rest of the house? I'm definitely way out of my comfort zone on this and any help will be appreciated....See MoreShould I put in crown molding?
Comments (7)We don't have very high ceilings (I think 8') in our dining room and I still think our moulding looks nice. We did stay away from the wider moulding - I think ours is 3 or 4 inches wide - because of the smaller scale. I don't think you have to have crown moulding when the wall color isn't the same as the ceiling, though. It would still be fine to do two different colors if you didn't have moulding. What kind of window treatments will you have? Depending on your treatments, it might look fine to have moulding on the section of the fourth wall that doesn't have windows. Or you could put some kind of cornice over the top part of the window....See MoreCurtains below or in front of crown molding?
Comments (14)@brensmum, my room is 13'x15.5' I'm leaning towards having my curtains go only around the window (extending 12-18" past each side) rather than the whole room since the molding prevents the curtains from reaching the very edge of the wall (5" away) and also I think the off-centered window will look weird, creating an un-symetrical effect either in curtain width or spacing from the windows....See MoreHoney Oak Crown Molding.....
Comments (2)what a pretty color you have in there! Rather than use the exact same color darker, why not add somethig more to the space? 7658 Gray clouds would look great with your navy curtain and complement the Copen Blue. Keeping it neutral will make the space seem larger as well....See MoreAngela Simmons
