A long 'u', I believe. Although when you're ill, it describes the return of crud. :-)

So, Annie, your Covid symptoms so far have been relatively mild?

I think I've had a cough that has been recrudescencing (a new word to me too) since before Thanksgiving. And this last week is the first time I've gone all night without a sinus type headache waking me up for the same length of time. Three negative Covid tests but just not quite myself - when I couldn't remember the last decade I'd had a severe cold. Clearly I'd dropped the ball somewhere and allowed a virus.

What is difference between recurrence and recrudescence?

Recrudescence is the recurrence of an undesirable condition. In medicine, it is usually defined as the recurrence of symptoms after a period of remission or quiescence, in which sense it can sometimes be synonymous with relapse.

I never met a new word especially a long one I didn't enjoy.
