Cat with Cancer; Advice Requested
Comments (31)My almost 16 year old cat Maud was diagnosed with melanoma on the tip of her nose after a biopsy. We went to an oncologist who said surgery to remove her nose was the best shot at removing the cancer, and we would follow up with a series of cancer vaccines. She just had the surgery less than a week ago and is doing AMAZINGLY well! The surgeon was an artist and she was running around the day she came home. She stayed one night in the hospital and the techs told us she was asking for petting that night! We are so hopeful this has cleared the cancer and the surgery has not been a huge deal for our senior cat at all. She is on pain meds every 8 hours, which make her sleepy right after. The surgeon said he wished more owners considered nose removal rather than be upset by a cosmetic issue when the animal could care less how it looks. I am sharing in hopes that people will consider surgery for an older cat, depending on the type of cancer of course. My girl has amazed me with her will to live and resilience....See MoreNeed advice for traveling with dietary restrictions
Comments (6)I very much recommend staying at a place where you can cook. Aside from the suite hotels, many time-share resorts also rent out units. When it comes to restaurants, don't expect much from chains, even the fancier ones, unless your restrictions match up to their corporate menus. But most smaller places, even the non-fancy ones, can be very cooperative. However, it's best to call ahead and discuss your needs. While chefs seem to relish the challenge of making something wonderful despite restrictions, it's good to give them a little time to plan and get ready. And go at a less-busy time. Also,it's important to bring or make enough treats to counteract the temptations of eating in restaurants and other people's homes. Knowing you can have something truly special later can do a lot to give a person the strength to pick his or her way around the menu....See MoreAdvice for traveling with cats
Comments (16)Well, we made it! This is not a trip I would like to repeat, lol. Monkey yowled the entire time we were in the car, enough that he gave himself kitty laryngitis towards the end of the trip and could only make little squeaky noises. He's fine now and as loud as ever, haha. Mouse was quiet in the car but went crazy in the hotel rooms. He runs around like a little whirlwind and chirps and meows and jumps on things and makes it impossible to sleep. I very nearly left him in Nebraska to fend for himself after he only let me get 1.5 hours of sleep one night. :) Moose was the best behaved. He's the one who blocked up a couple months ago so I was worried the stress would cause him to block again especially since he wouldn't be drinking as much but he seems to still be peeing fine. We're settled in the new place and things seem to be okay. Mouse is still driving me nuts at night because he likes to hear himself talk in the echoes of my furniture-less apartment but hopefully he'll get over that soon... The weather was nice so a hot car was never really an issue. Just wanted to update you that we made it okay. :)...See MoreTravel/Flying Stress: Advice Needed!
Comments (42)I read this thread a few days ago and didn't have time to respond... I am about as far opposite you (and many of the others) as could be. I worked for an airline for 10 yr early in my working life and I was ready to travel at a moment's notice. I kept a bag in the trunk of my car! Still, I sympathize and can relate somewhat as my ex had terrible anxiety with flying-- to the point that he NEVER slept before a flight. It caused many arguments until I realized he just wasn't going to change. I think the thing that strikes me most about your worries is that they are all things that are out of your control. For many of us, me included, having no control is a recipe for anxiety (and sometimes for me-- bad behavior). I think the key is to recognize what you can control and what you can't. I liked the idea of planning an extra day for your trip-- a "throw away day". If everything goes smoothly, you have a bonus day.. if not, then nothing is lost. It doesn't sound like your uber planning is causing you stress-- in fact, it is part of the control you DO have over your trip. I would never go to such lengths but that's just my personality. I am the person running to the store on day 1 because I have forgotten a hairbrush or my new shoes I HAD to have gave me blisters. I say stick with your routine-- but be sure to plan a relaxing first day of vac. It will balance out. Mostly, I just wish you a wonderful trip!...See Morelegomom23
