We just had runners installed on our stairs just for Fred. He kept slipping on the door.

Eld, Chewie falls on my laminate from time to time too. I'm hoping the new stuff will give him more traction as it's less slick and has more texture to it.

Thank you for sharing this. Oski is 14 and is still able to get up on the beds with the help of jumping on footstools. I lift him into the car, so that won't be the problem you have, but eventually we might need to get stairs for the beds where he likes to rest so he can see out the windows. He doesn't slip on the floors but our home is mostly carpeted.

Good for you doing your research to get the best fit for Chewie. You didn't say how old he is. My vet has mentioned a new medication for dogs with arthritis called Librela. It has been used in cats for a while in the US and for dogs in Europe with very good feedeback from pet owners. You might check it out with your vet. It's injectable, once a month I think.

Edited to add: I went to Amazon to put the stairs on my wish list (would order from Chewy), and it reminded me that I use a Pet Gear brand stroller for Oski even though he walks a lot, it's handy when he gets tired. I have used it hard almost every day for a couple years. Gets wet, gritty, folded and unfolded countless times, yet it holds up well.

Socks, my 17 1/2 year old dog is on Librela. Our vet was actually the first one in the area to get it once it was approved by the FDA. Her hips have been bad for a long time, so we are not seeing much difference in her ability to walk well. She does get up easier though. The biggest selling point for us was that we could stop the medications like Tramadol, Prevacox and Gabapentin a month after the first injection. She doesn’t seem to be in pain, and the years of all these tablets did a number on her liver values.

Kathgrdn, glad you found a ramp that works well for you. Getting them in the car has been trouble. Can still lift her in the car, but I was always worried about our other one not being able to get in the car by himself. Sadly we had to have him euthanized a week ago. As far as I recall, you were the first one to comment when I asked about how your dogs are eating.

I bought the ramp for my 80lb dog and he would not use it! He has since passed on, but it is good to know about the stairs. The next dog we had eventually had issues sliding on the tile as she aged. Putting various size rugs here and there created walkways.

I have a larger set of steps for my dog to get in and out of the back of my Tahoe. It is working well but I still have to hold on to her halter collar and now I have created a sling that I put around her back end for when she's going down the stairs. They are kind of steep, the ones I have. They are the same brand and made well but aren't really very heavy so I can easily move them around. They live in my garage over to the side of the car.

It may be a good idea to go ahead and get a younger dog used to using a ramp or steps so that when they get old and need it, they won't be afraid of it. Just an idea.

Lucky pets to have all this TLC. They deserve it.
