Looking for ideas on updating kitchen

I am looking for some ideas on best way to update my kitchen. I would like to brighten up the space. I prefer neutrals. I am open to keeping the cabinets as is or painting. I would like to change the countertop and backsplash. I probably have to keep the floor as is. I would like to add more white into the space but not sure how white cabinets would look with the floor. i usually prefer white cabinets with wood floor but that isn't possible to bring the wood into the space. Any ideas would be appreciated!

maybe you could sand and stain the bottom cabinets in a lighter more ”white oak” type of shade of wood and the paint your uppers white. replace hardware and change grout color of backsplash. keep your counters bc they are beautiful!

I’m not a designer but I️ think a solid quartz counter in a shade similar to the floor would really update. Also change the two level counter to one level and add different hardware in a brushed stainless, maybe some long pulls. The backsplash may still work with a new counter if you have more tile. Do not put a 4” splash back.

IMO your wall color should not be decided until all of your other changes are made. Grays are very difficult to work with. LEDs in daylight bulbs 3500-5000K range should be installed before choosing any colors. I would like to see surrounding lighting to give an idea of the table light.

Not what you asked, but I would not choose Colonial White granite. It is one of the most stain-prone granites there is. You will need to be sealing it 4x a year, and even then, it will even absorb water around your sink, much less oil and foods. The whole point of getting a granite counter is its toughness- -except for a few like Colonial White, Imperial White, Glacier White and Kashmir White. Instead, for low-maintenance white-background granites, check out Alaska White, White Delicatus, or Viscon (sometimes Viscont or Viscount) granite.

Re-staining your cabinetry is probably going to be more expensive than you think especially given your title "Kitchen makeover on a budget." The re-finishing process would be recommended only if your current cabinetry is in excellent condition, suits the layout that you need, and is worth the money to you that it would require to refinish which would be starting around $5,000 USD for most averaged-sized kitchens, likely higher depending on your region. Many homeowners choose the alternative "refacing" method, where the doors only are replaced and face frames, if present, are updated to match. You can probably find refacing specialists in your area to offer you a quote. This would allow you to update with a completely new door style if you desired. Changing the backsplash is a project that will involve some sheetrock repair after demolition of your existing backsplash, if you have one. Sometimes new flooring, especially if existing flooring is a worn laminate, really spruces up the area. New hardware and lighting is also a frequent recommendation for budget remodels. Cabinetry is an expensive component to re-do, so that's something you should avoid given restricted budget parameters if your current cabinetry isn't in dire need of an upgrade.

Congratualtions! Really nice home! Here is what to do 1) Remove drapes and valance in kitchen ($0). Aesthetically, you don't need additional window treatments and looks like the area is private. So, likely you can leave them with nothing. If you find later you need light-blocking or privacy, shades can be added. 2) Put a counterheight table where the kitchen table is, but move to but up against tjhe wall where the buffet table is. Move chandelier to center over table. Updated chandelier. (You don't want an island here.....will look awkard with the peninsula). Also, finding the cabintry and countertop could prove to be impossible.). 3) Paint color on walls appears to be green. Once you have the furniture in, choose a lighter, more neutral wall color. 4) When you do decorate, don't make the mistake of placing a bunch of small items (like current owner). 5) Remove light in family room and replace with can light. QUESTION For family room, will there be a tv? If so, can you show more photos of the space? (Tv will be a little challenging in this room, but where they have it....shoved it the corner does not look good). Best would likely be on the long wall with sofa on the bay window wall. Good luck! 😀

Do you have lighting under your cabinets? Is it pretty "white" rather than "yellow"? Here's my thought: remove everything from your counters to another room for a moment. Turn on your undermount lights. (Or install some.) See if your paint color feels "light and bright" with that. Consider repainting your walls, and putting pendants on the peninsula that shine light down on the counter.

I feel like all your light is up at the ceiling and it feels kind of dim by hand level. I don't think it's the cabinetry (but I'm biased - I love beautiful wood). The granite is the same as mine, and I don't love it. Changing your granite would probably be less expense than having your cabinets painted, but you will need to be very careful of color with your sandy floor color, I think bright whites will make your floor look dirty.

As you bring items back in the room see if you can keep as much of the backsplash visible, as it will be reflecting light and brightening the space.
