Why is my breaker tripping when turning on and light on if off

So, I tried adding 4 recess lights to a room adding a single pole switch and the 4 lights from an outlet closest to the area, but this outlet is also giving power another outlet. So first question would this be safe? If yes, what am I doing wrong? The wiring that comes from the circuit breaker are connected to the plug, then pigtailed. So white to other white outlet and to new single pole light switch, and black to black outlet and new single pole, and finally ground, but since old wiring didn’t have ground I just connected the ground from new light switch to the green screw on existing plug. So why is my light continuosly on when I turn the breaker on when the switch is off but once I turn it to ON position it trips the breaker?

hope this wasn’t confusing.

thanks in advance
