Ideas to upgrade our boring exterior to intercultural architecture

Think Structurally

Hi, I am a structural engineer and I love architecture. But now I am living in this cookie-cutter house in the suburbs. Our family is interracial (Chinese & American) and hope our house can reflect the unique side of us. I want to see if anyone has some ideas on how can we improve our dream house exterior (don't mind a bit of craziness).

  1. I like the Japanese and Scandinavian style that uses a lot of wood or brick and brings a lot of warmth and cohesion with nature.
  2. Absolutely dislike shutters, simply serve no purpose
  3. Enjoy any interesting design
  4. Planning to add a small porch awning to add some dimension in the front.

Some ideas I have:

  1. Take out the shutters
  2. "Highlight" the edge of the window so it won't look as empty
  3. paint the door to a different color
  4. change the siding and roof to a different color
  5. Add a somewhat modern front porch awning.

Appreciate any ideas and rendering :-) Thanks, everyone!
