Microsoft popups

I have a Dell desktop. I have it approx. 2 yrs.

I use Firefox browser and iCloud to save photos which are taken with my phone.

At least 1x a week I get a large popup from MS saying I haven't finished setting up my computer. I need Edge and store photos with them, One Drive.

The popup does not give the option to decline, only to update later.

I've searched around and can't figure out how to get rid of it. Its annoying and I'm wondering if I'm forced to do this?

Is it possible?

I do know it's impossible to get rid of Edge. I ended up installing it, and used the default app setting to pick a different browser. Seems to work well.

Maybe One Drive is the same, just installed it to quiet the message.

I actually like One Drive. It syncs my work desktop with my work laptop AND my boss does the same, so that all of our files are accessible by both of us, without causing multiple versions. So I probably installed it on my home stuff and just don't use it. It's far less intrusive than the obnoxious Edge.

Go into your settings and search for 'notifications'. You should then see options to turn off the notifications for the various programs (or 'apps' as they're now calling them, even on a desktop), including OneDrive.

Hmm...when I click on my own link I do get a pop-up warning. It's a Dallas Morning News page, so I tried to go straight to the www.dallasnews.com page and do a search - cannot find the search box (!) This is an article by Neil Sperry dated May 31 and updated June 1 - and located in the McKinney community section. I've edited this post - the link I had referenced shows articles in Sperry's magazine, but no readable links! Personally, not saying you should even consider this, but since it came with Windows 7, it should have a valid authenticity sticker on it, correct? Myself, I'd probably grab a clean Windows 7 ISO, burn it, and install it fresh and squeaky clean. Yes I realize I might need to give Microsoft a call to activate, but having a genuine authenticity sticker, I figure I could do that, right? BTW, if you're not comfortable doing an install, and don't know how to locate any special hardware drivers you might need, you shouldn't even consider it. Just my "what I'd do". Mostly because, for me personally, having to box it up and pay to ship it back would be more hassle than the install. :)

Does "Adblock?" allow subscribing to "Easylist"? I know "Adblock Plus" does, and although I still occasionally see the green double underlined text, the pop-up effect is gone. Stopped by the filter listed by "mapx" in this post on the Adblock Plus open forum. (Can't easily post a vertical bar here) As for "Opting out", personally, I will not. From this help page: In order for our opt-out tool to function correctly, your browser must allow Javascript, and third party-cookies. Personally, I won't enable third party cookies, but that's just me. Also, inspecting the source of that same help page I see that if I were using IE, it would also tell me: In addition, if you are using Internet Explorer version 6 or later, your settings must be set to medium or lower. Again, it might just be me but it seems counter-intuitive to lower security to avoid being exposed to garbage I don't want to be exposed to. I just wanted to say that yes, Adblock Plus does stop it. loralee- Problems like you were having typically result from installing programs that you find on the Internet...stuff like that coupon printer, which often typically come with all kinds of pop ups and malware.. Unless you are downloading known programs like Adobe, Firefox, Flashplayer, etc., from reliable sources, you're asking for trouble. And when you try to uninstall these programs they either don't uninstall easily or they uninstall and leave behind things that continue to mess up your computer. There are even programs that you pay for that seem to be legitimate antivirus programs that actually take control of your computer and can make a huge mess of things, and require expert help to get rid of. After you get your computer fixed, please do not download and install any new programs you happen to find online - free or otherwise -or anything that's supposed to fix your computer or find malware because these things often are malware themselves. And if there's something you find that seems legitimate and you really think you have to have it, check here first to make sure that it's not going to mess up your computer again.

I don't think it's that kind of notification. It's one where it takes up the whole screen and you have to say "remind me later" to keep going. Jane will let us know :)

My notifications are always off. For the life of me, I can't figure who would want to be notified of all the stuff they want to tell you everyday, all day long?! It's irritating.

There does seem to be a way to do this in Windows 10:

Occasionally, Windows might suggest ways to finish setting up your device to get the most out of your experience. If you’d prefer not to get these notifications and you're running Windows 10, version 2004 or later:

Select Start > Settings > System > Notifications & actions.

Under Notifications, clear the checkbox next to Suggest ways I can finish setting up my device to get the most out of Windows.

I did turn off notifications and it still pops up. Rob is correct, it covers the screen and the only option is ‘remind me in 3 days.’
